kmcguffee 0 #2 August 13, 2003 QuoteAnd yet, we bombed Iraq? We bombed Lybia too. They've kept their noses clean since then. That was also when we accidentally bombed the French Embassy in Lybia. The French refused to let us fly over their territory enroute to bombing Lybia. "Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do." lawrocket 3 #3 August 13, 2003 I thought it was spelled "Qadaffi." Or was it, "Khaddafi?" Maybe I meant, "Kaddhafee" Aw, hell with it. My wife is hotter than your wife.
slotperfect 7 #4 August 14, 2003 QuoteI thought it was spelled "Qadaffi." Or was it, "Khaddafi?" Maybe I meant, "Kaddhafee" I asked the same question to an interpreter when I was deployed . . . he told me that since the Arabic and English alphabets are different, when the arabic names are "transliterated" into English it is done phonetically. Since there are many combinations of letters in English that make the same phonetic sound, the result is the different spellings appearing as you described.Arrive Safely John
