Windows don't always open, and there isn't as much cross-draft or circulation in an apartment as in a small house. Just think of how much fun people make of Houston when we have an ice storm -- they show pictures of folks slip-sliding away on the ice. It's whatever you're used to. happythoughts 0 #27 August 15, 2003 Why is everyone worried about the French? If they wanted air conditioning, they would buy it. You know they can afford it. After all, I can't even afford to visit France and these people can afford to live there! And cars - nearly all of them drive foreign cars.

Kerozene 0 #31 August 15, 2003 QuoteIt makes me wonder how such a thing can happen in a country as advanced as France. From what I hear France isn't that advanced. Just a step up from being a third world country. _____________________________________________ They may not all drive in Yukons and all have their gas at a ridiculous price like the US, but France is far from being a "step up from a third world country". If you would look past what CNN (Bush Channel) tells you, you would see the beauty of this country and its people. And they might be able to teach you about some "savoir-vivre" in your relations with other countries. They have state provided health care and the university over there is free (but they have a higher tax rate). They are FAR from being ignorant. If you're laughing because old people die due to high temperature, I would point out that you guys have casualties each time there is a small snow fall in the eastern states (5 cm of snow). It's sad but it makes us smile a bit in Québec (Canada). Is the US a third world country because 10 people die per day due to snow? No, because the people who died were not used to driving into snow (no winter tires or good driving habits, etc). So is France a third world country because they lost 30 old people due to heat? No, they are not used to your year-round hot temperature seen in texas. "That makes me angry, and when Dr. Evil gets angry, Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset. And when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset....people DIE!!!"
