sfc 1 #26 August 18, 2003 load of fun 2:9:0 1 night jump, landed out still don't know exactly where, NW of the landing area. There I was bushwacking out from landing on the side of a hill chatting to the other folks on the two way radios we all had (great idea having these on a night jump BTW) and the S&TA tells me to watch out for mountain lions and try not to look like a wounded deer, like I can see shit from the pale light of the glowstick, finally found a road, three cars pass and no-one stops, I mean wouldn't you stop if you saw someone in the dead of night with a helmet with a strobe carying a parachute?? "Smells like Guano" competition at skydance on sat, loads of fun, those guys really looked after us, placed 4th (out of 4) but that didn't really matter as we all got prizes and did some really cool dives. Unstable 9 #34 August 18, 2003 0-0-0 Our Pilot had a change of plans and therefore our DZ was closed for the weekend. Oh well, i went to two weddings and one reception, and i got to do some work on my car. After the WFFC jumping orgy, it was a nice change of pace for one weekend.=========Shaun ==========

riddler 0 #40 August 18, 2003 Didn't know it was your b-day on the 5th, Wingy - hope it was a good one. For me, this weekend only (not including Rantoul), 5:5:0 Including a few spectacular crashes as I remembered (the hard way) that landing at one mile above sea level is a tad faster than landing at the freefall convention. Did a tracking dive just to prove to everyone how much I suck at tracking. Did a coach jump with a guy that I think will be a good skydiver. Had a nice chat with skr about swooping, and he gave me a few things to think about. Overall, a pleasant weekend Trapped on the surface of a sphere. bwilling 0 #45 August 18, 2003 130 plus:3:0 130 plus canopies I saw in the air at once for Texas State Record attempts... that was awesome! I made 3 jumps Friday, a couple of fun 2 ways with the young son of one of the guys on the record attempts... and a solo at the end of the day that I had both an ugly opening, and an ugly landing on, and wished afterwards that I had just started drinking earlier and saved the 20 bucks... oh well, the first two jumps made up for it! Took my whuffo g/f friend out Saturday to watch the record attempts... she had fun, and was impressed by it all too! Congrats to all the awesome jumpers that set a new Texas State Record this weekend!!! "If all you ever do is all you ever did, then all you'll ever get is all you ever got." FallingAngel 0 #46 August 18, 2003 Ha ha, I was there for Sunshine's weekend of nakidity...It was very amusing! Did 3 jumps with her...and have some interesting video footage on my boyfriends video camera... Other than that, I suppose the weekend numbers would be something like...1:9:1. dterrick 0 #49 August 18, 2003 QuoteBeer for night jump Wednesday you too? 1 (sleepless weekend) 2:1 ...well maybe 2 I got the gang interested in night jumps two weeks ago. There was skepticism it would go off since there had been NO night jumps at WSC since the operation moved to Gimli six years ago. Thirteen jumping participants was an INCREDIBLE turnout - seven of us owed beer. Since the moon didn't rise till after eleven we didn;t get finished our jump rotation until about 2. By the time we'd cracked a case or 2 open it was three. Also officiating at a sports car race (duties start at 8 ayem), Dumbass here decided to stay up all night - like I'd have been able to sleep after the rush of my first 'real' night jump. Boy was I in bad shape by mid Sunday afternon. *** I suppose I should pay Beer for my first crash and burn rear riser landing. I had to do a warm up jump under my Raven and decided I'd best know its limits in this high 90's heatwave. Clear and pull from 3000 followed by a thousand feet of intentional trash. Riser flares, toggle stall and recoveries, flew it backwards (wow what a strange sight to see a fully inflated pilot chute over the NOSE of the canopy). then I tried to land it with rear risers ... seing I had a good shot at the peas and I'm about due for new steering lines (...well, a whole new canoy, actually). My feet missed the bowl by about three feet. My ass missed it by about 6 . "We all know" about the stall characteristics of a Raven, right? It is, of course, even more sudden on risers. Sore butt, bruised elbow, bruised ego. Kids don;t try this at home . Not a bad weekend for just 2 jumps. -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
