Blonde jokes to be made illegal in Bosnia

Blonde jokes are set to be made illegal in Bosnia under new laws that will enable women to sue people who make jokes about their hair colour.

The gender equality law, due to come into effect within the next two months, will make it an offence to tell jokes about women based on their hair colour.

Savima Terzic, director of the International Group for Human Rights, told Bosnian daily newspaper Nezavisne Novine: "The new law on gender equality would enable blonde women to sue anyone who tells jokes that offend them, even if those jokes were just based on the colour of their hair."

Blonde jokes are said to be massively popular in Bosnia.

When will it end? :)

What do you expect from an area where people beat and kill each other because they believe in a different god?

That they will send us in and blow the crap out of them

Can we stare at them for more than 6 secs? :D

This is scary shit here in California. There could be a State Commission to Investigate Blonde Jokes. The penalties could be severe. Gray Davis might even go for it, just to get the blonde vote, there are so damn many of them. Oops, I'm blonde (even if a graying "dirty" variety - yuh I'm a "dirty blone" alright...). Drunk too...

If it's a gender equality law, what does hair colour have to do with it? If I tell a blonde joke, it applies equally to dumb male blondes and dumb female blondes.

But what do I know? I'm probably just jealous.

Finally some protection for us of light complexion and colour!

Ever since the christians forced us to give up our Viking raids we've been the butt of so many jokes. It's hurtful. It was OK when we could go out and kill a few dirty French people to let off some steam, but nowadays we really need protection.

Never again I say, never again

Thank you, Bosnia, for leading the way in this time of darkness.

Geesh.

Well, there's nothing about this law on the webpage of the newspaper that reportedly carried the story.
Also, any Bosnian woman that would sue someone because of a joke about hair color they made would more than likely just make a bigger joke out of herself.
Luckily, people around these parts still prefer common sense over unnecessary legal action.

No fair injecting facts into a perfectly good bashing -- it ruins all the fun! :S

How is restricting jokes about a person's hair color any different than restricting jokes about a person's skin color or gender? I think that both should be covered by the 1st amendment (I know they dont have the Bill of Rights in Bosnia but its a moral thing too) but the latter two have already been done to an extent in the US with racial or sexual harassment lawsuits.

Well, for one thing, actual discrimination is very seldom the result of a persons hair color, while skin color and gender have been and continue to be very common causes for it. Jokes about the latter two have, imo, the potential to cause much more damage than simple blonde jokes.

Unfortunately, I live in the US. No such common sense exists regarding legal action.

We had a guy in Tampa sue over getting hit by a strippers breasts. How lame is that?

Man Injured By Breasts
July 1, 1998
TAMPA, Fla. (Reuters) - A Florida man has filed suit against a nightclub, claiming he suffered whiplash when a topless dancer knocked him out with her oversized breasts, the Tampa Tribune reported Wednesday.
"Apparently she jumped up and slammed her breasts on my head and just about knocked me out," the newspaper quoted plaintiff Paul Shimkonis as saying. "It was like two cement blocks hit me. I saw stars. I've never been right since."

Shimkonis, 38, filed suit in Pinellas County Court seeking more than $15,000 in damages from the Diamond Dolls club. The dancer, known as Tawny Peaks, was not named in the lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, Shimkonis and friends visited the bar on Sept. 27, 1996, for his bachelor party.

Shimkonis suffered...loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, the suit said.

It was his bachelor party, how long did he expect his enjoyment of life to continue anyway? ;)

Barely related, and I'm certainly not a big fan of the PC movement, but I noticed something while running stairs at the local high school stadium last night. I live and work right next to the Hanford reservation which was formed as part of the Manhattan project and which produced the plutonium that helped demolish Nagasaki. About 7 miles away from the site is Richland High School, home to the Richland "Bombers" who have the attached logo. Does anyone else think this is pretty "non-PC"?

(Not that I really care, I just thought it was odd that it took 10 years of living and working here for me to make the connection.)
