The gender equality law, due to come into effect within the next two months, will make it an offence to tell jokes about women based on their hair colour. Savima Terzic, director of the International Group for Human Rights, told Bosnian daily newspaper Nezavisne Novine: "The new law on gender equality would enable blonde women to sue anyone who tells jokes that offend them, even if those jokes were just based on the colour of their hair." Blonde jokes are said to be massively popular in Bosnia. When will it end?

tbrown 26 #6 August 22, 2003 QuoteCan we stare at them for more than 6 secs? This is scary shit here in California. There could be a State Commission to Investigate Blonde Jokes. The penalties could be severe. Gray Davis might even go for it, just to get the blonde vote, there are so damn many of them. Oops, I'm blonde (even if a graying "dirty" variety - yuh I'm a "dirty blone" alright...). Drunk too... Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! If it's a gender equality law, what does hair colour have to do with it? If I tell a blonde joke, it applies equally to dumb male blondes and dumb female blondes. But what do I know? I'm probably just jealous. (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.

vonSanta 0 #10 August 22, 2003 Finally some protection for us of light complexion and colour! Ever since the christians forced us to give up our Viking raids we've been the butt of so many jokes. It's hurtful. It was OK when we could go out and kill a few dirty French people to let off some steam, but nowadays we really need protection. Never again I say, never again Thank you, Bosnia, for leading the way in this time of darkness. Geesh. jerry81 10 #11 August 22, 2003 Well, there's nothing about this law on the webpage of the newspaper that reportedly carried the story. Also, any Bosnian woman that would sue someone because of a joke about hair color they made would more than likely just make a bigger joke out of herself. Luckily, people around these parts still prefer common sense over unnecessary legal action.

No fair injecting facts into a perfectly good bashing -- it ruins all the fun! Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
Harksaw 0 #13 August 22, 2003 How is restricting jokes about a person's hair color any different than restricting jokes about a person's skin color or gender? I think that both should be covered by the 1st amendment (I know they dont have the Bill of Rights in Bosnia but its a moral thing too) but the latter two have already been done to an extent in the US with racial or sexual harassment lawsuits.__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. mouth 0 #14 August 22, 2003 Does this mean I can't make jokes about myself and call myself a dumb blonde? Can I sue myself for picking on me? I'm confused. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit.
jerry81 10 #15 August 22, 2003 QuoteHow is restricting jokes about a person's hair color any different than restricting jokes about a person's skin color or gender? Well, for one thing, actual discrimination is very seldom the result of a persons hair color, while skin color and gender have been and continue to be very common causes for it. Jokes about the latter two have, imo, the potential to cause much more damage than simple blonde jokes.

You could never refer to yourself as a dumb blonde because you have excelled in your fondling target selection. Such wisdom at an early age. (Reuters) - A Florida man has filed suit against a nightclub, claiming he suffered whiplash when a topless dancer knocked him out with her oversized breasts, the Tampa Tribune reported Wednesday.
