turtlespeed 226 #1 August 22, 2003 Well, I just have to share this! We just got back from the public bid opening for the Texas A&M Bonfire Memorial. Oh, yeah!!! WE GOT IT!!! I know most of you don't know what this is, so I will briefly explain...TAMU used to have a Giant Bonfire every year(xept the year Kennedy Was killed). Sadly, November 18, 1999, the unlit Bonfire collapsed while it was being constructed, killing 12 TexasA&M students...last month we recieved plans to construct the Memorial to it. It's a mostly granite memorial, 2.3 million pounds of granite. It is going to be beautiful. The center "Spirit Ring" will be constructed in such a way that if you stand in the exact center (where the Center Pole was )and look through the 16' tall, bronze and granite portals (with the students picture and Bio in it) you will actually be looking in the direction of their home town. I am so happy to be able to be a part of this. A couple of my cousins have married AGGIES and I'm sure you can imagine the grief they get, but we love 'em anyway!!!on a serious note - that sounds like a great idea for a memorial..and I'll have to come visit it one day!! I had a couple of friends working on the bonfire when it collapsed; one broke an arm, and the other got a concussion, but they came out pretty well. This is going to be awesome! Aggies rock. Maybe a banner/Flag jump?
