News Media - Which Way does it lean?

Recommended Posts

Billvon starts good threads.

From the Fair and Balanced thread we are seeing statements about Fox.

But, In general, is the news service (let's hold the poll to US news) biased?

There's already a good discussion on the other thread, I'd just like to see how it comes out here. Drop a post once in a while to keep near the other thread.

Note, a lot of young people and college students in DZ.com - how would that bias the vote?

disclosure - I'm fiscally conservative and socially think most of us should mind our own business and keep the government out of it.

Bringing it to the top.

Should have added the same choices but specifically where do non-US people think it leans.

Sorry.

Good one. I think you are right.

Also, a sample size of 11 or 12 on three questions with proportion of 7 vs 2 out of 12 I think is still statistically valid.

I haven't started any good polls yet, but the post whoring is moving along nicely don't you think?

3 vs 14 vs 7

(97% confident that DZ.commers think the media is biased to the left rather than the right.

also

If you add those that think it's just fine to the those that think it leans right vs those that think it leans left, (10 vs 14) it's not statisitically significant with a sample size of 24 (we'd only be right to assume it's considered left leaning 3/4 of the time - don't bet the farm on it, too risky).

Now that's nerdy.

I think the post whoring is still going well.

Test and CI for Two Proportions

Sample X N Sample p
1 14 24 0.583333
2 7 24 0.291667

Estimate for p(1) - p(2): 0.291667
95% CI for p(1) - p(2): (0.0233911, 0.559942)
Test for p(1) - p(2) = 0 (vs not = 0): Z = 2.13 P-Value = 0.033

I'm not voting as I get left and right confused (politically that is, I can tell my shoes apart thank you very much)

Some of the shows are biased e.g. Ann Coulter had an easy ride on Scarborough country and got ripped apart on Hardball but I think both are on the same channel.

As for the main news stations reporting current events in the bulletin format I can't watch them as there is little depth to the coverage. I'd rather go to the web and surf.

I did watch CNN last night as they were ionterviewing a bunch of journalists that were present for the prison revolt in Afghanistan where they caught John Walker.

That was an interesting story.
