hobbes4star 0 #1 August 26, 2003 i was watching something on the discovery channel, and one of the Dr's had a theory about death. not to go into great detail or anything but to sum it up his theory went that when you are just about to die you are your most alive. now obviously this doesn't work for all cases. he was talking more about when people die like in car wrecks or in some way that is sudden and an accident. something about the survival instinct that is in all of us that kicks in. i was wondering if that is why skydiving is so good. because when we are skydiving we are at our most alive. even if we know we are not going to die that possibility is still there. i don't know. any opinions??if fun were easy it wouldn't be worth having, right? Fast 0 #2 August 26, 2003 Sounds like an interesting theory to me. I know that no matter what is going on, once im out the door, all i can think about (thankfully) is the dive ahead of me.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. bobsled92 0 #3 August 26, 2003 If it's my "time to go" and the Arch Angel (Micheal) has laid down the law, I really hope it's not while stepping of the curb from a StarBucks or a heart attack while on the crapper. My last thought as human being ANYTHING brown (including terra-firma) is NOT what I want. JUmping puts me at peace with "Creation", that is a fact---for my life experiences. I remind myself that I am mortal and not to "test" it. Not for me but, for my family and friends. happythoughts 0 #4 August 26, 2003 Quotehe was talking more about when people die like in car wrecks or in some way that is sudden and an accident. something about the survival instinct that is in all of us that kicks in. I guess it goes back to his definition of "alive". Most people walk around in a half-assed daze most of the time. When they are in a car accident - their attention becomes totally focused on one thing, their adrenaline kicks in and puts their mind in high gear, they are totally awake. Car accidents, skydiving, paintball, fights - all these things give me that focus also. Most people walk around Monday through Friday waiting for Saturday. Wasting 5 days of the week in a coma. I can see the doctor's point.
Tonto 1 #5 August 27, 2003 Let us know if you try it. I think you only feel most alive because of the contrast with death. Would hanging in a harness 1000's of feet up be serene if it were not for having fallen out of a plane? If so, then why do I struggle to relax completely in a climbing harness at a hanging belay a few 100 feet up? I'm alive. I can't imagine being "more alive." tIt's the year of the Pig.
