Dumpster 0 #3 August 27, 2003 It's a friggin' conspiracy I tell ya! The oil companies will use any excuse to jack the hell out of prices - Next thing, the price will jump again because a delivery truck had a flat tire--- Ooooh! Raise the price another buck a gallon! We have to buy a new tire for that truck! Easy Does It
tobi778 0 #4 August 27, 2003 Can't be as bad as our fuel prices. In Finland we pay around 4€ per gallon. (roughly the same in US$)

Remster 30 #10 August 27, 2003 Quotewhen the economy gets low then we should lower prices instead of raise and RAPE America!!! Thats not how it works in a montly-report based economy (thats what the west has become). If the Oil companies would lower their prices because of a slower economy (regardless of how much they can maximize their profits), then when they issue a profit warning in 2 months and their stock price tumble, resulting in your 401K to also tumble, you (not you per say, but investors in general) would bitch and complain about it.....Remster

Here, it's because some asshole on the news broadcasts that some pipeline has been sabotaged and oil production is going to be affected and that we can expect fuel prices to go up. This gives gas station owners (who are watching these newscasts with unbelievable interest) license to run outside with their little numbers and immediately jack up the gas prices 10 cents. See the difference? Taxes vs. propaganda. It's bullshit! The US needs to tap into their own resources rather than depending on the imports. Jayruss 0 #14 August 27, 2003 us American’s are luckier than the rest of the world when it comes to fuel prices, but being the largest consumer of it, why don't we tell OPEC the price we'll pay? I know that GM is notorious for telling their vendors what they will pay for products. __________________________________________________ "Beware how you take away hope from another human being." -Oliver Wendell Holmes

HRHSkyPrincess 0 #16 August 27, 2003 Write your elected officials and insist that he/she/they write and pass the laws which will regulate the price of fuel. Of course, then we wouldn't have a "free market"...right? Right. I live in a State that grows the stuff for crikey's sake, so it's really insulting to hear the propoganda about why the gas prices are so high!***************** Attitude is everything! I'll see if I can track down the report but ethanol does more damage to your engine over time compared to just straight gas resulting in more fixit bills and less reliability. billvon 3,121 #25 August 27, 2003 >why don't we tell OPEC the price we'll pay? Cause they know we'll blink first. Our economy would collapse if they cut off (even severely reduced) oil imports. They wouldn't likely do that since their economies would collapse as well, unless they had a very good reason to (i.e. to stop the 'great satan.') Take an example. Bush says "We will not pay more than $20 a barrel; my administration will prosecute any US company that pays more than that for a barrel of crude." Oil imports stop, at least temporarily. Airlines shut down. Trains stop. No one can drive. It's like the day after 9/11 all over again. Think he'd get re-elected?
