bodypilot90 0 #1 August 26, 2003 I'm sure the UN will do "all it can" QuoteVIENNA, Austria — U.N. inspectors have found traces of highly enriched, weapons-grade uranium at an Iranian nuclear facility, a senior diplomat said Tuesday, citing a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The find heightened concerns that Tehran may be running a secret nuclear weapons program. Agency inspectors found "particles" of highly enriched uranium that could be used in a weapons program at the facility at Natanz, said the diplomat, who covers the activities of the U.N. nuclear watchdog and spoke on condition of anonymity. The United States has accused Iran of developing a clandestine nuclear weapons program, violating the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty barring the spread of atomic weapons. Iran has denied the allegations, insisting its programs are devoted only to generating electricity. Iranian officials did not contest the finding by the IAEA inspectors but said the equipment was already contaminated by traces of enriched uranium when purchased by Tehran. The diplomat said the report, prepared for a meeting of the U.N. agency's board, underlined the need for further inspections of the Natanz facility and Iran's nuclear programs in general to abolish concerns about the nature of its activities. "It says that contamination is a possibility," as Iran claims, he said. "But there is work to be done to determine the plausibility of this."

bodypilot90 0 #17 August 26, 2003 I guess this line should scare Iran the most.... QuoteIf Iran is judged to have fallen short of full compliance by the agency's November meeting, the board could refer the matter to the U.N. Security Council. What a joke! billvon 3,118 #20 August 26, 2003 >Bodypilot, please tell me, where are those WMDs in Iraq? "Eye-rack? Er, I meant Eye-ran. Sorry guys." This actually works out pretty well from Bush's point of view. A war in about a year will be perfect; the populace always rallies around a president in wartime, no matter what the state of the economy, foreign affairs problems or domestic issues (like energy problems.) It will also divert attention from the massive problems we're having in Iraq and Afghanistan now, and we'll be able to hide the civil rights abuses going on in our "allies in the war on terror." Should be an interesting little while. Now, daddy Bush did not start anything in Iran that he didn't finish. So, Bush will probably not know what to do. Hence, he will claim just like North Korea the problem is fully under their control and diplomacy will reign supreme
PhillyKev 0 #22 August 26, 2003 Quotehow about the clinton news network, I mean cnn http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/08/26/iran.iaea/index.html Again...I'll ask. Did the UN speak directly to CNN or release a press report? Or is CNN just reporting this story, and not the source of it. There's a big difference. Oh wait...you said the Clinton News Network... then it must be true. Please. Unlike you I don't automatically believe a news reporter or story because it happens to lean the same way I do. I'll ask again...who's the source?
Malev 0 #23 August 26, 2003 QuoteDid the UN speak directly to CNN or release a press report? It was a leaked report. Essentially, this report simply says that some particles of enriched uranium have been found, Iran has given one plausible explanation for these, some investigation is needed to see if this is actually true. Thats it.

kiltboy 0 #25 August 26, 2003 That's it for now............. Prime minister's questions is on Thursday and Tony is in front of the Hutton inquiry the same day. If thing so badly for TB could we have Alastair Campbell leaking that there are weapons that could be used with say 45 minutes notice? On the serious side it's as you say a report of a leaked report that the IAEA found traces of weapons grade Uranium. Iran says it was left over from the previous owner as they bought the kit second hand. That ebay will bite you in the ass if you're not careful.
