PLFKING 4 #1 August 28, 2003 I'll be in Eloy for the DZ.com boogie, and am going to take a side trip into the desert with my trusty Canon to get some shots. For those of you who have been to the area, what are your one or two "must-sees" ? Don

DJL 235 #3 August 28, 2003 Let me get back to you later because I have to leave the office but I have a particular spot where you need to go for some great photography. This is away from all of the tourists and boring site-seeing BS you'll see in Sedona. I camped in this area for a week and hiked along the red-rock cliffs taking amazing pictures along the way."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
Pablito 0 #4 August 28, 2003 My mother lives in Cottonwood little town about 30 mins from Sedona, For my Bday 4 years ago she bought me a Flight in a C182 over Sedona, man it was precious. I love the place and the people are amazing there. I have no words to descrive it. Go and Enjoy!!! sinker 0 #5 August 28, 2003 go through the town and take some side roads that "seemingly" lead to nowhere... the roads off the beaten path have some incredible scenery. There's also a chapel in the hills that is very photogenic, it's built into a rock set up on a hill, very peaceful and very cool. There's also a really neat HUGE cave there about 1 mile hike behind a neighborhood but I can't recall how to get there... one other thing to do, take the road out of sedona to Jerome AZ, very small eccentric artsy type place, very cool vibe there... it's an resurected ghost town w/ some cool galleries and bars and what not. It's built into the side of a mountain. worth the trip. -the artist formerly known as sinker

fasterfaller 0 #7 August 28, 2003 Love it there . I am going this weekend to shoot 8x10 large format for a stock photo project . It is a great place to photograph . Best times are sunrise to one hour after and sunset and a hour before . You may need filters to shoot there if there is much snow . Make sure you put the $$ out for pro film if you are going to shoot there .
hooked 0 #8 August 28, 2003 Sedona is beautiful, also close by is Oak Creek Canyon. There is a place called "slide rock" there and it's a lot of fun. Very cold water running through and over some very slippery rocks, makes for a fun ride!!!!! If you try to step over or walk through the water and lose your step, you will go for a ride in the water! A very popular place but also very pretty. You will have lots of scenery in that area, the red rock formations are amazing. lawrocket 3 #9 August 28, 2003 Frankly, I prefer the natural beauty and college-town/vacation hub mentality of Flagstaff, which is only about an hour up the one of the most beautiful drives you'll ever see. Sedona was some nice hiking, etc, but I just got a weird vibe from the place. It seemed a little too Art Bell to me. My wife is hotter than your wife. Deuce 1 #11 August 28, 2003 Last year I picked up my family in Phoenix after the boogie and we went to the Grand Canyon via Sedona. It's real pretty. We went horsback riding, and found some nice spots, but we weren't allowed to even trot, let alone gallop. There was still some snow on the ground. The Grand Canyon was better. Not crowded, cold clear air. Just beautiful.

skymama 37 #14 August 28, 2003 Oooh, I told a friend that I'm going to AZ, and she said there wasn't much to see in the area except for Sedona, and she encouraged me to go there. But, I'm not planning on getting a car. Care to have a tag-along, Don? I promise I won't sing louder than the radio. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
celljumper 0 #15 August 28, 2003 I lived in Flagstaff for 5 years and without a doubt, it's the most beautiful place I ever been. Sedona is a must, Oak Creek Canyon and the drive up to Flag are beautiful, and then drive out the the San Francisco Peaks just outside of Flagstaff and take some pics there. It's a gorgeous place, no doubt. I'm happy to provide more details or directions should you need any!!! have a great trip. I'm jealous!!
PLFKING 4 #16 August 29, 2003 Thanks for all the replies, folks.......you've certainly given me a lot of options to think about. I went to the Grand Canyon when I was a teenager, and have always wanted to go back and get some sunset pics of the surrounding area. It's beautiful, and also has a certain "alien" look to it. I will definitely bring every filter I've got. And I just bought another wide-angle lens last month. QuoteCare to have a tag-along, Don? I promise I won't sing louder than the radio. Sure...I'd welcome the company! But be forewarned -- I will be spending the entire day out there, and if you start whining about wanting to go back to Eloy and jump, you'll have to hike it. And I've heard you sing. (...note to self.....check Circuit City website for the loudest boombox they sell....and pack earplugs. And start praying that Andi doesn't sing louder than a Casa during takeoff.....) Don
skymama 37 #17 August 29, 2003 QuoteI will be spending the entire day out there, and if you start whining about wanting to go back to Eloy and jump, you'll have to hike it. Why does everyone think I whine? I do not whine! I can skip a day of jumping to see the area, in fact I was planning on it. I've never been to Arizona so I don't want to spend the entire time at the dz, I like touring new places. So, pack us a picnic lunch, baybeeee, we're goin' for a ride! The airport is located atop a 2000' mesa and is a real trip to fly into and take off from. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
