skybytch 273 #1 August 30, 2003 I'm pleased to announce that the world's most awesome teenager (that'd be my son, dbriggs )can now go out to the airport, rent a C172 and go fly it - all by himself. Yep, this morning David soloed. Even cooler, his instructor let me ride with them for the three takeoffs and landings he did before she and I got out. Testament to how much I trust him.... since I hate landing in an airplane! We got out and off he went. Three solo takeoffs and landings, all of them really, really nicely done. I'm insanely proud of him, almost to the point of agreeing with him that at the moment his shit don't stink. Here's a few pics. 002 is preflighting the airplane. 007 is me and Dave in front of the plane. 012 is Dave as we were taxiing. 018 is me expressing my confidence in his landing ability 020 is Dave's face just before his instructor and I got out of the plane. Beerlight 0 #13 August 30, 2003 Congrats to you! After many, many years I still remember my first solo. So, how long after you got airborne did you look in that right seat, see NO instructor and let out a yell! Wish my mom would've come out to see mine>>>
BoogieBob 0 #14 August 30, 2003 Quote007 is me and Dave in front of the plane. 018 is me expressing my confidence in his landing ability Well congratulations to David on his (and your) accomplishment. I have a question though...WHO is REALLY the girl in the above mentioned pictures (007 & 018)? She certainly doesn't look old enough to have a teenager for a son. wmw999 2,589 #15 August 30, 2003 Congrats to both of you. This is an awesome time to be a mom, when he does something incredibly cool, isn't it? Of course, everything he does is cool, if he's anything like my son, but you know what I mean Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
dterrick 0 #16 August 30, 2003 QuoteTripy shit having an instructor and your own mom get out of the plane and walk away leaving you saying "oh shit oh shit oh shit, what the hell did I get myslef into??" hmmmmm.... sounds suspiciously like the way I felt the first time someone shouted DOOR!!!! and kicked me out of the plane - except the part about Mom being there (she's chickenshit of little planes and not great on big ones either). Congrats on a major achievement! Flying a plane is something I've always wanted to do (did a discovery flight once) but I found skydiving first. Flying is not an if, but rather a when, for me. Then I'm gonna build my own experimental areobatic plane so I can do things in the air I can;t under canopy. -Dave Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend (Lennon/McCartney)
