skybytch 273 #1 August 30, 2003 Geez. I'm thinkin' that after a couple weeks of procrastination I need to be all efficient and stuff, so I figured I'd get my change of address done online, since it's kinda late now to do it the old fashioned way. So I go to the USPS website and click on change address. Fill out all the info and click continue. And it gives me two choices. Pay them $1 to process my change of address online or print out the info and go to the post office later to drop it off for free. WTF is up with that? Does the software that produces whatever is needed to get my freakin' mail to me get paid more than the people at the counter? Ain't no way I'm giving the government my credit card number. Huh uh. I trust the homeless guy on the corner more than I do the government when it comes to my money. So I guess I'll be stopping by the post office tomorrow. Hopefully I won't have to kill or maim anyone as I fight the blue hairs in Caddys and the soccer moms in SUV's for a parking spot. $1 to process your change of address. Sheeeeeit. What's next, parking meters in the post office parking lots?

I know I could charge $1 to it, but any more than that and they'll likely respectfully decline the charge.

PhillyKev 0 #7 August 30, 2003 QuoteSeems like the credit card company would get most of the $1; so, what's the point? They usually get 5%, that's a nickle. Web sites cost money, it's not like they didn't give you a choice.
WFFC 1 #8 August 30, 2003 stop by a P.O. on your way out of town. Fill out the form and drop it in the mail. It's still free that way. I e-bay alot and I refuse to ship with them. UPS is just easier and more friendly. Snowwhite 0 #13 August 31, 2003 They are all running for their lives. Used to be, we had to MAIL everything. All letters, correspondence, bills. I NEVER mail anything anymore, and the only thing I ever get in the mail is JUNK. So they are worried about all of those stamps they aren't selling, and they will have to figure out a different way of hanging on to their jobs. Don't forget, there was NEVER a successful railroad in the United States. Every one that ever made ends meet, did it thru post office subsidies. When the subsidies ended, so did the rail ways. Soon there will be no post office, it will all be online or auto deposit/withdrawal. Save your handwritten/mailed letters, they are about to become collectors items.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
AndyMan 7 #14 August 31, 2003 Yup, craichead went through the same thing. It's stupid. They charge you an extra fee to use the automated system, but the old paper based one is free. That makes no sense... The paper one has to be handed to a clerk who then types it into a computer. Soo.. they make the inneficient system free, and charge for the efficient one. Our government at work... _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Hummusx 0 #16 September 2, 2003 Actually the processing usually has a fixed fee PLUS a percentage. $.35 + 3% is typical, so that would leave a whopping $.60 or so for the post office. I don't get charging for automated services that save labor costs...that's like charging for online banking or over-the-phone credit card payments. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
