lowtime low turn lesson Quote | Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Always hear about how dangerous low turns are and I have always taken these things very serious.I thought I had enough altitude to turn into the wind,I was wrong.Saw how low I was getting,"oh shit, better turn".Im grounded for 6 -8 weeks, leg is broken in two places.Could have been much worse, even fatal.

Lesson learned,the hard way.

It was a bitchen dive anyways.

Shit I don't remember, not only that, but it was on the old forums (the ones before the latest old forums), so its gone forever...that was about 3 1/2 years ago.

It was probably something stupid, since I only had 1 jump at the time, unlike my posts now, since I have more jumps. Crap, wait a minute, my posts are still pretty stupid...:P:P

My first posts were also in the old forums, but here is my first one in the currently searchable forums. Funny that it is a topic that very recently came up again from someone's reminder.

PLFs are lifesavers. I learned mine the "old-school" way, courtesy of the US Army at Ft. Benning. Basically, you jump off of a platform in different directions and practice for a week, then you start the fun stuff. They have an evil contraption called a "Swing-Landing Trainer" where you are suspended about 6 feet in the air. Using guide ropes, they can swing you around in any angle in relation to the ground. Then they yell at you to drop. Then you do it again... and again... and again. You either get it or become a walking bruise.

Being proficient in PLF procedures has taken a lot of stress off of my landings. I'm not worried about standing up landings, because I know I'll be fine if I don't. Just knowing that takes a lot of the stress off and makes me more relaxed come landing time.

Justin

And I'm still happy that I can do a good PLF, even though I need them a lot less.

:)

What should my first rig be? Quote | Reply

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, I'm 17 and I just started skydiving in August and I'm on jump #11 on my static line progression and I am researching different gear choices for when I get my license. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as far as a first rig. I am 248lbl but declining and I have half way decided on what to get. Right now I want to get a new infinity container and a PD saber 2 260 main, not sure about reserve yet. If you guys have any ideas about where I can get my canopies for cheap and what canopies I should get as a newbie I'd appreciate it.

My first post back in Jan. 2002:

While on vacation in Florida this past December, I had the enormous pleasure of doing my first two tandem jumps at the Skydive Space Center in Titusville. Since then, I have had difficulty concentrating on anything but skydiving. Since I live in the mountains of New England, jumping right now is not an option. I have signed up for AFF for this May back at the Skydive Space Center. Any suggestions for this Newbie? What research can I do between now and then to better prepare me?
