ChasingBlueSky 0 #1 August 28, 2003 Someone please explain to me why a one way ticket on ATA costs more than a round trip ticket to the same airport, and one of the flights is the same? Also, the same round trip flight is about $40 more on Expedia.com, than if you go to the ATA webpage._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... quade 4 #2 August 28, 2003 A one-way ticket on most airlines cost more than a single leg of the round trip. Sometimes significantly more. Why it's more than a round trip ticket is a little confusing, but then again, nobody ever said it had to make sense. As for Expedia charging a higher price. Well, uh, duh! How do you think they make their money? Movie tickets you buy from Fandango.com also cost more than if you buy them at the movie theater -- same deal with TicketMaster and concerts. HINT: Rough in and do searches for your travel plans at Expedia, then go the the airline sites and see what the exact same flights would cost from them directly.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
harryskydives 0 #3 August 28, 2003 Staying over a weekend is often much cheeper than a monday and back friday ticket. I uses to get two sets of round trip tickets, with the returns a month or so away, then fly the frount half this week then the second half next month and it would cost half what the single monday friday ticket costs. Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...

Hmmm . That is an idea I have yet to try! Thanks! I am new to the world of booking travel - grew up flying under "dependant stand-by" on a major airline and never paid more than $20 one way thanks to the old-man's job. All the other times I have traveled, someone else has done the leg work (ie, job, travel agent, school)._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... kiltboy 0 #5 August 28, 2003 I fly to Glasgow with Icelandair via Rekyavik as all Icelandair flights go to Rekyavik where you change planes for the final destination. One time I found that the fare to Rekyavik was more expensive than the flight to Glasgow and I've no idea why as I had to go to Rekyavik anyway. sinker 0 #6 August 29, 2003 so buy the round trip, don't take the return trip, and get the airline to refund you the leg you didn't take! It's worked before, I do it for business all the time, not on purpose though... it just often works out that I go somewhere, need to cancel the return and rebook later... -the artist formerly known as sinker

Hmmm, it's my understanding that if you don't take the first leg of a round trip, they won' t let you on the second. Did you do that a lot? Anyway, the reason round trip is cheaper is because that usually means you're a visitor to the city, not a resident. Cities often subsidize the airlines or have some kind of deal with them so that weekend and round trip flights are cheaper to promote tourism.
harryskydives 0 #8 September 5, 2003 Sorry it took so long to reply: But i would buy two round trip tickets. Example leave Pdx- to Ont monday sept 10th return Ont-Pdx friday Oct 15th. Then second ticket Leave Ont - Pdx friday Sept 14. and return Pdx - Ont Monday Oct 11th. Two round trip tickets about $250 apeice. One Monday back same Friday ticket $850. Then i fly the two frount end in sept and the two back end tickets in Oct. Two flights for less than one. I have not done this for a while because i do not fly mid week any more. Now i am staying over the weekends. You are looking at the hidden city. Some times it is cheeper to fly to say Vegas, than to Lax. But the plane stops in lax on the way to vegas. You buy the vegas ticket and just get off. But that does not work for a round trip ticket because when you do not got on in vegas they cancell you ticket and do not let you on the return plane in Lax. Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
