Hummusx 0 #1 September 9, 2003 Saw this from a report this morning: The most serious vulnerabilities appeared in California, where agents managed to complete the process to receive three temporary state driver’s licenses within two days using the same fake information. On one occasion, after one agent failed the standard eye test, a second agent stepped in for him, passed the eye test, then handed the successful results to the first agent, who had his photo taken for the license. Simultaneously, a third investigator was using the same data on another line in the same office; he also was issued a temporary license. “No one at the DMV noticed that two individuals were simultaneously using the same fictitious name and same fraudulent supporting paperwork,” the report says. And perhaps more troubling, that undercover agent had already received a temporary license a day earlier from a different location, using the same name. On Aug. 20 of last year, the agent supplied a fake out-of-state West Virginia license as verification of identity and managed to get the California license. On Aug. 21, using the same name but a fake Texas license, he got a California license again, even after the clerk noticed the agent had received a temporary license the day before. The agent simply said he’d lost the first license, and the DMV clerk issued a second California license “without questioning the story further.” ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
wmw999 2,588 #2 September 9, 2003 That's careless, but part of living in the US is not having a national ID card. People who aren't citizens are supposed to have a passport and/or green card. Obviously illegals don't. But what are we protecting if we go further and further towards having a state (rather than national) ID card? I'm not sure I want to be registered in quite that way. Biblical prophecy will come to pass with the mark of the beast tattooed on the forhead. Many in that group would relish that because it would be a signal of the end times. I think its not that far a stretch before there is a national ID card.. just like the National Socialists had for ALL citizens in Germany in the 1930's... followed by tattoo's not long afterward for certain groups. I don't buy into the biblical stuff, but it is kind of eerie when they start talking about implanted "medical" identification chips. There's a family in Florida beta testing them now. Obviously illegals don't. Just to clarify, Canadians need neither a passport or a green card. Canadians can cross the border with proof of Canadian citizenship, which can be in many forms. We don't need passports to enter the US. I presume this is also true for other friendly countries, but don't know of any off the top of my head. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. freeflybella 0 #10 September 9, 2003 Sounds like the day I got my fake I.D. in high school. Edited to add: Funnily enough, my info was from an Iranian friend named Afsaneh Tabassian - and I was about the whitest, blondest person in the place. Mind you, that was 17 years ago... lawrocket 3 #11 September 9, 2003 Awwww, there's no need to fret over the difficulty of obtaining driver's licenses in California. I think this report is a little too one sided about the driver's license issue, and is obviously political propoganda. California has made great steps in addressing problems with the difficulty of getting driver's licenses. No longer will a person have face the great procedural hurdles of proving legal status. Here in California, it is the policy to ensure that anyone who might have previously had difficulty getting a state identification card no longer have such a problem. Why, just last Friday we signed into law a bill that will ensure that those federal agents won't have any problems at the DMV, so long as they cook up the phony documents beforehand. Californians know that it is much easier to fake a taxpayer ID number and a birth certificate from Guatemala than it is to fake a California Driver's License! To ensure that there are no more fake Driver's Licenses around, Californians have decided that it is far better to have real licenses, backed by the state, with fake information. So, no more worrying about how hard it is to get a California ID Card. Thank God the Democratic legislature and out governor are taking steps in the right direction to ensure that the difficulties are eliminated. We're doing it for the children... Hummusx 0 #12 September 9, 2003 For anyone that didn't read the entire article, it actually says that ALL states failed the tests. I only posted the bit about California because it seemed the most ridiculous. ____________________________________ It’s like selling a million grills all at the same time…with extended warranties. -Hank Hill
