Anyone Heard From NEMO since Hurricane?

Recommended Posts

Hey, no need to shout!

To all who care, the wee archipelago of Bermuda has been bruised, battered, and outright whipped by freefall-calibre winds during Hurricane Fabian. We had sustained 100 mph winds, with periods of 120 and even 140 mph gusts that were a sight to behold. I've seen several hurricanes, and quite a few good storms, but nothing like Fabian.
Unfortunately four people were swept into the water during the height of the storm (see story and pictures atour local daily newspaper; several minor injuries were reported, but all in all things worked out okay.

Here in Bermuda we began building out of limestone block and concrete block many moons ago, so our houses stand up to a range of howling winds; a major factor in having such a low death toll during such violent events. Since the nearest continent is approx 700 miles away, we locals can't just pack up and run whenever the wind starts to blow. We actually go shopping for essentials, beer and rum included, and have hurricane parties to pass the time.

I would love to stay and chat, but I work at the airport in Bermuda, and there is debris piled upon debris piled upon debris that needs to be cleared away. The southern edge of the runway is only 50 feet from the ocean, so we have been swamped with flotsam and jetsam.

Until next,

Dale
