Edward Teller - Father of the H-Bomb, Dies at 95

Recommended Posts

The link to the AP story is below. I remember seeing an interview that was later put on a home-video documentary "Trinity and Beyond - The Atoic Bomb Movie" where he stated that he was the only advocate of the H-Bomb, simply because he knew how important it was that the US develop it first. Of course, seeing his childhood home of Hungary fall to communism in 1919 and have to deal with Nazi Germany influenced his views.

One quote from the article summed up his influence over the years:
Quote

Still, he defended the existence of atomic weapons, saying, "The second half of the century has been incomparably more peaceful than the first, simply by putting power into the hands of those people who wanted peace."

So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

I met him twice, seemed Ok in person. Disagreed with his politics, though. I believe he was the prototype for Dr. Strangelove.

His was an amazing life. Personally I think that he was right in effectively claiming credit for that the world has enjoyed for almost 60 years now...

"Humans loved war. They kept practising, getting better and better at war. But suddenly, about about the middle of the twentieth century Humans got so good at war that they couldn't have one anymore."

Enough seriousness! What are the funeral arrangements? I would hope that he's going to be Microwaved instead of Cremated:o:D.
