Two Towers (widescreen edition)

Recommended Posts

-do you buy this two-disc set, or hold out for the forthcoming Two Tower's Extended Edition?

There is something to be said about having the entire movie on one disc. This trilogy will reign as the most grand and artistically expressive epic to ever grace the silver screen.

SMiles;)

Much agreed. By far the most astounding movies EVER put on screen. I hope the films creator goes on to do more interesting and complex stories such as the Lord of the Rings.

I'd wait though. There will be several collectibles of greater value after the Holidays this year.

Word has it that theatres are setting up marathon schedules already for the spring. You'll be able to watch the unedited version from beginning to end. -something like 10 to 12 hours.

Of course, I AM one of the biggest LOTR fans. So, yes, I bought the widescreen edition that just came out, and YES, I will buy the extended edition in November. I did the same thing with Fellowship, and I'm sure I will do the same with Return of the King.

HOWEVER--
I do NOT dress up as an elf or ringwraith or hobbit when I go to the premieres. At least, not yet!!!;)

When the first one came out, I waited around for the 4-cd box set.

When this one came out, I saw it at Costo for $22... and debated. I could get the 2 CD set now, or wait for the box set... in which case I'd now have 8 DVDs. Presumably, when the third also came out I'd wait for THAT 4 DVD box sex, at which point I'd have 12 DVD's.

By my math.... 12 DVD's is roughly 36 hours of video.

That's friggin stupid. I rejected the idea of buying the 4 DVD box set for each movie.

So... My choices were now to get the individual movies when they come out, or wait for that one big final box set, which probably won't come out for a few years. The fact is, that I want to watch the movies NOW, not 2 years from now. I bought the single movie DVD... which surprisingly was a 2 DVD set.

This trilogy will also reign as the most over marketed DVD spectacular. How many combinations of DVD's are the hawking?

That reminds me of the group that was protesting the release of the movie last year. Saying that it was a publicity ploy to capitalize on 9/11. Even though it was titled Two Towers, not twin towers, it had already been filmed and edited before 9/11, and the book was title like 60 years ago.

I agree with you. I didn't, and don't condemn. That's where the irony comes in.

I happen to be an avid fan also, and will be buying the entire collection, when it's available as a complete, boxed set.

It's just ironic this came up when it did.

Yeah, but the nice thing about the extended edition is that all of the scenes that were edited out solely because of time constraints are back in. They are put in seemlessly, not on a special menu or anything, the movie just has more content than what was in the theater or on the standard release.

I'm waiting.

LOL, I just re-read LOTR, since I have nothing else to do. It's only baout the 100th time...

I got the first Extended edition, and I'm waiting for the Two Towers EE, as well. 45 minutes more movie! yay! More Faramir! Ok, I'm a geek. B|

Yes, and according to the special features on the CURRENT release, the score was rewritten and everything so that it would fit with the extended scenes and have no breaks in it, rather than "inserting" extra bits of the original score. Peter Jackson doesn't just throw this shit together, he takes care with it and makes sure everything is perfect...

I totally agree - I love LOTR - I'm a big fan of the books. But how many different ways can you sell the same product? I bought the first two for $17 each at Best Buy the first day they were released. I'll do the same with the third. Then in a few years when all the hype is over and they release a 20-DVD set with the bonus tracks of special noises Gollum makes in the bathtub, the 25 minute Liv Tyler drunk-on-the-set-tirade of whining about how shallow her character is, and the extended two-hour viewing of fans standing in line waiting for the first screening and picking their nose - I'll sell the first three and buy that one :)

The bonus materials on the first are outstanding. The making of is great. It shows the storyboards and modelling and computer animation they used while developing the script, as well as the raw New Zealand geography it was overlaid onto.

And the Jack Black version of the Council of Elrond is hilarious!!!
