CanuckInUSA 0 #1 August 14, 2003 In all my exploits to relive my WFFC '03 experiences, I forgot to mention that I purposely went out of my way to drive a little farther on my way to Rantoul in order to check out the "Adrenaline Rush" movie. Instead of taking the slightly faster route from Denver to Illinois (I-80), I took I-70 and stopped off in Kansas City on the evening of 7-31-03 in order to watch the 10:00 am showing the following morning. There was only six other people in the theater with myself. Grandma and grandpa with their 10 year old granddaughter, Over weight mom, over weight pa and their over weight teenaged son as well as yours truly. So I think it was safe to say that I was the only skydiver in the theater watching the movie that morning. Anyway I digress ... I really would have like to have sat down with these other people to get their impressions on the film and on what they thought of skydiving and of base jumping, but I still had many more hours of traveling ahead of me and I needed to hit the road. "Adrenaline Rush" is a fantastic movie which should be seen by everyone who is known to take risks in their lives (ah hell it should be seen by everyone regardless of their risk taking tendencies). It lived up to every expectation I had towards this film and I wanted to see it to determine if what the film makers said about people like ourselves being true or not in terms of why we skydive. And to have the film displayed on a giant Imax sized screen only added to my positive experience. It is hard to imagine why some people would dislike this movie, but at least one person who wrote a review openly stated that they thought it was a waste of Imax film. I believe that the people like this do not have a clue as to how difficult some of the stunts in the movie were to make. But I was thoroughly impressed with not only cinematography, but also the narration of the story the film makers were trying to get across to the audience. bobsled92 0 #3 August 14, 2003 When I first heard of the film/IMAX, I went to our local IMAX and ordered/prepaid a DVD home copy (all films are available at shop counter). It will be awhile for that thoughI'm glad to here you views of the film. -Grant_______________________________ If I could be a Super Hero, I chose to be: "GRANT-A-CLAUS". and work 365 days a Year. http://www.hangout.no/speednews/

Jumpervint 0 #5 August 14, 2003 Our IMAX theater here in Spokane is having a film festival the week after next, and Adrenaline Rush is one of the movies scheduled to play. I will definitely be seeingit soon. I did see Matrix reloaded there a few months ago, and boy, do I not want to see 20 foot high skin blemishes again. Vint. . . . . "Make it hard again." kingbunky 3 #6 August 15, 2003 awesome flick, amazing skydives... the da vinci canopy bit kinda blew me away, the base jumps were incredible, the freeflying was ... (running out of adjectives!) anywho, i saw it in hull quebec, twice on one training trip! i'll be going again next time if it's still playing. rehmwa 2 #8 August 15, 2003 Seen it - liked it - couple comments though 1 - kind of an ego rub for adrian don't you think? 2 - they showed freeflying and then 'talked' about how hard it is and the precision required since it wasn't easy for whuffos to tell. Why not show Airspeed doing their thing since that's pretty visually showing precision and ability without the narration (I like freeflying, but the clips only showed it if you were a skydiver)? 3 - The DaVinci stunt was very cool. But DaVinci's premise was drop from any height and "land". They didn't land it. (I don't blame him at all - boards and canvas don't give me much trust under 1000 ft.) 4 - The premise of the bio-chemical addition to adrenaline was a bunch of junk. That might apply to the people who make a few and then quit. But those in the long term are just as often athletes and rather calm about it as much as the adrenaline types. With all due respect, there are very few people making RW videos and tons of people (myself included) making freeflying videos. Why? Because freeflying is more graceful and conducive with music playing in the background. QuoteI like freeflying, but the clips only showed it if you were a skydiver Huh??? Because freeflying is more graceful and conducive with music playing in the background. With all due respect, the quantity of FF videots vs RW videots is not an issue when doing major work like this. All you need is 1 excellent videot, and those typically film any/everything. But as a RWer, I would have to agree to the appeal to the wuffo masses that FF has vs RW. You dont have to know what going on in a FF dive to see its visual appeal (a bunch of people in every direction flying together, grabbing hands, running arround upside down), as opposed to a wuffo watching Airpseed turn 78 points. I persoannly am in awe when I see that (its doesnt have to be 78 points) but the the wuffo masses, I see the point.Remster
Marz 0 #11 August 15, 2003 Adenaline Rush is a kick-ass flick. I agree that there is some stuff thrown in there for whuffos and more than likely for financing reasons (all the bio-medical stuff). The Quebec BASE crew (Bert, Mario Richard and the others) did an amazing job in Norway. A friend of mine used to be part-owner of the Athmospahir dropzone and knows those guys well. They're awesome guys and some of the footage (specially the BASE of the movie!) will definitely make you want to arch in your seat. I swear. Apparently they were given a 6-million dollar budget to go jump the fjord in Norway and did something like 400 jumps between them to get the footage... not too bad!!!!! DEFINITELY worth seeing if you get the chance! Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?

Lost of skydivers in Quebec have seen it now, its been playing lots here (the outfit that made the movie, SHE, is Quebec City based I believe, and the BASE group in the movie are well known locals) So is the narration in French in Quebec? I know how SOME (not all) of the k-beckers are towards the whole English/French thing. In fact I'm sure the "L'Office de la langue Francais" (the Quebec language nazis for those who don't know who I'm talking about) would have a field day if this movie was only playing in English. Remster 30 #15 August 15, 2003 QuoteSo is the narration in French in Quebec Actually, the naration is in English eleswhere.... Its a movie made in Quebec (well, produced here anyways), why wouldnt it have a French naration?Quotetowards the whole English/French thing. I'd always rather see a movie in its original version, but many people in Quebec dont speak English well enough to entirely understand a movie in english (well, I'm sure they would understand Gigli)... is that so unreasonable????Remster

Actually, all the IMAX movies are translated into french in Canada. Lots of theatres will run both versions. I saw it first in english at the Museum of Civilization in Hull (near Ottawa) then I ran out, and bought another ticket to see it in french. Just in case you're wondering, it's the same footage Marz _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?

I suspect you frequent mostly FF DZs, but I think you're just wrong on this one. Watch Deland Majik and Airspeed and and the Golden Knights and tell me how ungraceful they are. My point was showing a concept with the appropriate material, not favoring one flying style over the other which I think you are doing}}} QuoteI like freeflying, but the clips only showed it if you were a skydiver[/reply = unclear] {{{My bad, I'll clarify. As a skydiver (RW, CRW and FF, Swooping), I know how hard it is to do some of the moves shown. But in the video, it just looked like a lot of guys facing off - it doesn't represent the statement of 'precision and control'. There is better FF footage that is much more dynamic than shown and would have been better video to show 'control and precision' rather than making dumb statements like "Imagine riding two trains at 200 MPH and throwing a tennis ball back and forth". Again, better yet, show a good 4-way team screaming through a world record pace to show "precision and control". BTW I'm not saying delete the freeflying - it was nice. But in video, show the concept rather than show what you want and then try to explain it. Again, rather self serving video and the directors weren't all around jumpers, just your typical specialists (impression). I want a 50 foot monitor to show skydiving vids. Blue Skies ... The movie ran for 7 months at the Quebec city theater. Carl Samson, the producer of the movie, was there for the occasion, along with 4 of the many skydivers that participated in the filming of the movie. I managed to speak with Carl a few minutes, and asked him a few questions about how the movie was doing, worldwide. He said that the movie has been a huge success so far, everywhere it's been presented. And yes, he confirmed that a DVD will be produced, some time in the future, but doesn't know exactly when, at this time. Carl also told us, that the movie will be featured in at least 35 more IMAX theater through out the United States in 2004. So be patient! It's coming! Yves. Yves.
