JumperJosh 0 #1 August 27, 2011 I'm going to be ordering a new reserve today and I can't get ahold of my rigger and I'm not near my dz. My current container is a vector 2 sized V8. On upt's site they say it will hold up to a 500 cubic inch volume reserve. My question is will a pd 193 reserve which is 471 cubic inches fit? I don't want to piss off my rigger with a reserve that is a beeyatch to pack. He's hopefully going to have to pack it in the vector only once because I want to get a newer container during the winter months for next season. I would buy used but there is nothing in the size I need available and I need one ASAP. What do yall think? Oh and what lines should I go with, microline, dacron, spectra? and slider grommets, stainless or brass? Thanks for the help

If you're worried about size, go with the microline. If you're worried about lines that have some stretch, get the dacron, but remember, they pack larger and make that reserve container that much harder to close. Microline is way more common (from what I've seen) on reserves than dacron."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
monkycndo 0 #3 August 27, 2011 Each canopy and container volume can be +/- a little depending on how it was cut and sewn together. So when you pair up the reserve and container, a slightly larger than "normal" reserve could be packed into a slightly smaller than "normal" container. That would be a tight pack job. You could go the other way and have a smaller reserve and looser container to get an easier fit. It just depends on the luck of the draw for the combo you are trying to fit together. If you are going new, consider an Optimum reserve. Packs on average a size smaller and has a fantastic flare. I just upsized my PDr143 to an OPT 160 and it fit like a charm.50 donations so far. Thanks for the help I'm not really sure that you can choose SS grommets for PDR."My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Thanks for the help I'm not really sure that you can choose SS grommets for PDR. ........................................................................ Most reserves come standard with brass grommets. They do not weigh significantly different from stainless-steel grommets. Granted, brass grommets may not last as long as steel, BUT if can wear out reserve grommets, you need a better packer for your main! Sarcasm!
riggerrob 643 #6 August 27, 2011 The best way to determine compatibility (a fancy word for "which reserve will fit into which container?") is to visit container manufacturers' websites. ... in this case United Parachute Technologies ... When in doubt, err on the loose side.
JumperJosh 0 #7 August 29, 2011 Thanks, I went on UPT's site and for the older vectors they dont list exact reserves, just pack volume in cubic inches. I'm holding off for now because a 193 would put me at 1.13 wingloading. and at only 42 jumps I dont know if thats too much.
sundevil777 102 #8 August 29, 2011 It is wise to have a conservative WL on your reserve with so few jumps. That problem can be solved with the proper application of additional money - get an optimum, the 218 or 235 will likely be similar pack volume to the conventional fabric 193. Don't bother to analyze different pack volume charts, just call UPT and ask them what size optimum would be a good fit. Compliments to you on wanting a properly sized canopy for your skills as they are now, you just need more money to put a proper reserve for you into your container.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
