How not to handle LOX

Recommended Posts

I saw the subject I started thinking about bagels...:S. When and where did this happen? I know I-10 crosses the US. That's definitely worthy of a quote like, "Hey y'all, watch this!" Famous last words...:D
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Ya know, LN2 (liquid nitrogen) is cool, LOX is dangerous. You do understand that as it evaperates it attatches itself to you (LOX) and if you are wearing cotton clothes and light up soon after handling LOX you can ignite into a ball of flame. Also, have you ever spilled LOX on asphault? LN2 on the other hand, is almost as cold, is inert, dissipates well, in a well ventilated area, don't forget about the aphixiation hazard with any cryogenic liquid as they boil off, they expand many many times their volume as a liquid. Oh, also, cylinders with a cryogenic liquid in them must be vented as you can tell from the original powerpiont presentation.:)

George Gobel at Purdue University used to have some fabulous photos of lighting a barbecue using LOX. Sadly, after getting shit from the local FD, and the University, (his employer), he took the photos down.
