kansasskydiver 0 #1 September 15, 2003 I just got this news and am very happy to announce that skydiving may have actually saved a person's life. I am not going to disclose the names of the parties involved, but will tell the story. Last weekend I taught a SL jump class. There was one student who signed on his waiver that he sufferred from depression. I pulled him to the side during a break and talked with him concerned about his depression. There is a history of depression in my family, so I understand what the different types are etc. We discussed the issue and I was sure to ask him if he felt that skydiving would be dangerous or if he thought being on his medications may be some sort of risk. He said now, we both initialed the waiver and carried on our ways. Great student, kinda kept my eye on him with that concern in the back of my head of "what if..." Just found out, the student in question attempted to kill himself over the weekend... He is being cared for at the momment and is doing well. While interviewing him, they asked him about his plans and why etc and it states "...I was going to do it last weekend, but my buddy invited me to go skydiving so I wanted to wait..." Indirectly, skydiving and the people around prevented him from attempting to commit suicide last weekend. The results may have been different last weekend. Thankfully he is ok. Just thought I'd share the story of skydiving keeping someone around for an extra week, and now ever longer Blue skies, Chris<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! dgskydive 0 #3 September 15, 2003 I have seen skydiving help people through all sorts of stuff even thoughts of killing themselves. Believe it or not I had a friend that as a big time alcoholic and he stopped drinking so he could afford skydiving. That was a case of beer for us all. Usually skydiving finds a way to get us to dink more. Bottom line is this sport is good for our souls.Dom

Gawain 0 #6 September 16, 2003 Good news! You need to find a way to send that story or information to the lady that wrote that book about her son dying... "Jumping through Clouds" is that it?So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light!
