JohnnyD 0 #6 September 16, 2003 QuoteI am not a part of ANY party other than I am an American.. I have seen this man speak on a few occasions. He is EXTREMELY well informed and intelligent.. I am also very much unaffiliated. It does seem to me that your beliefs (at least socially speaking) are more in keeping with those of the republican party. Is this guy you will vote for in keeping with what I perceive to be your beliefs? He is, after all, a democratic candidate. Does he significantly depart from some of the democratic platform? I truly know nothing about this man. What is it about him that you believe in?
bmcd308 0 #7 September 16, 2003 Clark has implied that gun ownership is primarily a local issue. He also believes that assault weapons should be banned for the general public, stating, "people who like assault weapons they should join the United States Army, we have them." rhino 0 #8 September 16, 2003 Why does the general public need assault weapons?
JohnnyD 0 #9 September 16, 2003 Clark is for tax increases and affirmative action and against the war in Iraq. I am surprised you would vote for him. Although he is against assault weapons, that doesn't necessarily mean he is for gun control. I just am not seeing it I guess. Why this guy?
PhillyKev 0 #10 September 16, 2003 QuoteWhy does the general public need assault weapons? Please define assault weapons, Rhino. Because the way the law defines them is based on if they "look scary" and has nothing to do with their functionality. Well, except for the bayonette threads. We definitely don't want anyone with a bayonette on their rifle.

rhino 0 #12 September 16, 2003 You define Assault Weapons.. I asked a simple question. Why does the general public need them? Do you need an AK47 to defend your home? To hunt deer? Please..

lawrocket 3 #15 September 16, 2003 No, you a sawed off shotgun is the best weapon to defend your home. It'll leave nothing but fingerprints on a guy 6 feet away from you, and spare your neighbor any bad news. Too bad gun control advocates don't like sawed off shotguns. They look mean and scary and can be hidden too easily, and are only sawed off so that criminals to hide them. Gun control! I love the folly of it! "Criminals may use sawed off shotguns, so we should ban them." Fails to take into account that criminals don't care about the laws. My wife is hotter than your wife. AggieDave 6 #16 September 16, 2003 I happen to want a nice AR-15 to use for competitve shooting. There's a lot of folks that enjoy the weapons with no other use but to enjoy shooting them in the proper manner, or enjoy keeping them for their astetic and monitary value. That's fine enough for me. As for defending my home. I'll use what ever I have, be it one of my handguns, rifles, shotguns, a knife, a pipe, or just a mean face and my bare hands, it will be defended. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." lawrocket 3 #18 September 16, 2003 One more thing. Just the sound of cocking a shotgun is enough to scare away most intruders... My wife is hotter than your wife.
AggieDave 6 #19 September 16, 2003 QuoteJust the sound of cocking a shotgun is enough to scare away most intruders... Yup, I know that, I've actually mentioned it a couple times in the threads here... And yup, AR-15, semi-auto, it is the civilian version of the M16.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
wmw999 2,547 #20 September 16, 2003 Yes, if you need a weapon to defend your home, my vote would be for a shotgun. No choke, short barrel -- just aim in the general direction and there's a lot of holes there. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

quade 4 #22 September 16, 2003 So, the ultimate weapon is mearly psychological? I mean, wouldn't it be much safer simply having a really good sound system and an MP3 of a shot gun cocking? quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
FliegendeWolf 0 #23 September 16, 2003 QuoteThere's a lot of folks that enjoy the weapons with no other use but to enjoy shooting them in the proper manner, I'm intrigued by this. Luv2Fall 0 #24 September 16, 2003 Here's where I was getting at..................the AR-15, to my understanding, isn't an assault rifle in that - - There's no "AUTO" to place the selector lever on. - Also, a rifle is considered an "assault weapon" if it can accept a detachable magazine, and possesses two or more of the following features: Folding or telescopic stock Pistol grip protruding conspicuously beneath the stock Bayonet mount Flash suppressor or threaded barrel Grenade launcher A lot of guns we own and enjoy are mistakenly placed into the "Assault Weapons" category based on looks alone................a real shame. PhillyKev 0 #25 September 16, 2003 QuoteOne more thing. Just the sound of cocking a shotgun is enough to scare away most intruders... Bahhh......If I'm confronting an intruder, I'd rather have something chambered and ready than hope they're scared by the sound of my chambering. The sound of the shell exploding will scare them just as much, and the result will stop them from killing you if it doesn't.
