katiebear21 0 #1 September 19, 2003 Just got a call from my girl Ligeia who left Kuwait 2 days ago. Seems as though she's been stranded in the Azores (Lajes Field) because 2 birds flew into Engine #2 of her 2 engine jet plane. They dumped several gallons of fuel over the Atlantic and had to land with one engine at the nearest AF base! I started to feel sorry for her until she told me she's been put up in BOQ with a fully stocked mini-bar and saw this. Not a bad layover! -KatieEdited to add pic of one of our last nights here... Blahr 0 #2 September 19, 2003 My grandparents (mother side) are from the Azores. I've never been there myself but someday I will. I'm half Portuguese. All Irish on Dads side, thats why I'm a drunk I've heard that its beautiful. Some whacko's think that the Azores are what is left of Atlantis

katiebear21 0 #4 September 19, 2003 QuoteSo, Gia finally broke down and is coming to visit me huh? Yep, in fact, she was probably the only one who actually got emotional leaving this place. She was definitely ready to go but it's hard leaving good friends! I'm not far behind her... 16 Oct! I have to stop through the Azores too... hopefully I'll be able to get out and take some pics. It looks so beautiful! Katie Get your PMS glass necklace here

I guess he is going to stay until Sunday Morning. I am trying to convince him that he needs to take another week off and goto Perris with me. Wish you could be here at the there Girlie. The Hurricane sucked all the bad weather away from us. It is simply amazing!! No Clouds and the Humidity is actually low. sinker 0 #6 September 19, 2003 cool! I lived at Lajes Field for two years. Was the best! It's such a beautiful place, and the Portugese natives are very kind and, at least back in the early 80's, were relatively untouched by modernity. It was an incredible experience. -the artist formerly known as sinker
skycop 0 #7 September 19, 2003 We broke down in Sicily on the way to the desert, not a bad place for the plane to break! It would SUCK coming back though, however the Azores would'nt be too bad, it could have been Greenland or somewhere north. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" AndyMan 7 #8 September 19, 2003 There are indeed FAR worse places to be stranded. I wish I'd get stranded in a place like that... My dad played in a pro-am golf tournament there a few years back. He STILL goes on about how nice it is. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
katiebear21 0 #9 September 19, 2003 It really does look like a beautiful place... My flight back is going to be a nightmare 5 stops to my destination of Atlanta with layovers in Italy, Frankfurt, Azores, and Baltimore. Then I get to ride a bus from Atlanta to Columbus. My chances of getting laid over at one of those places is pretty high! I will make the most out of it though!
