Squeak 17 #1 September 21, 2003 I was just watching a motoring show and they were comparing our V8 Supercars to NASCAR and in the background a guy was landing a Red white and blue canopy with a flag. It's a short 1/2 mile oval curcuit with apparently 26 degree banks. the name starts with a "B" it's stuck in the middle of nowhere. Ring any bells to any of you DEMO ppl.You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? jceman 1 #3 September 21, 2003 It sounds like Bristol, Tennessee, but you miss the banking by 10 degrees if it is. Yep, 36 degrees in the turns, 26 or so on the straights. A NASCAR driving likened racing Winston Cup cars at Bristol to "flying jets in a gymnasium". Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
Gawain 0 #4 September 21, 2003 QuoteI was just watching a motoring show and they were comparing our V8 Supercars to NASCAR That doesn't sound like much of a comparison to me. I used to catch some V8 Supercar on Speed (when I had digital cable) and the Supercar series actually uses some stock components and real life technology. NASCAR is a bunch of plastic shells and 4-on-the-floor. The day that we'll be able to buy something like a Ford GT-P... *drool* The upcoming Pontiac GTO is an Americanized version of the Holden Monaro CV8, but GM build quality concerns me.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! It was probably Mark Schlatter. He does NHRA, IRL and others. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Squeak 17 #6 September 22, 2003 yup that was the place and the quote was mentioned. Do you get a lot of skydiving displays into arenas like that in the states? You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? jceman 1 #7 September 22, 2003 Quoteyup that was the place and the quote was mentioned. Do you get a lot of skydiving displays into arenas like that in the states? Not me personally, but many national level racing events from NASCAR to NHRA seem to feature skydivers as part of their opening ceremonies. A jumper with the American flag (and a buddy or two) is also a common sight at many college and pro football games as well. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
mjosparky 4 #8 September 22, 2003 Quoteyup that was the place and the quote was mentioned. Do you get a lot of skydiving displays into arenas like that in the states? Yes we do. Yesterday I was part of an 18 person demo into Cal. Speedway in So. Calif. for a IRL race. Everyone wore smoke or banners, 2 did crew and one jumped a monster flag. One of the few benefits of my kid's job at a Ford dealership - two free tickets. And as long and the damn american engineers dont go screwing w/ a good thing it should be a bad-ass ride. I got to drive one in Oz and looooovvveeed it. im currently trying to get a job so I can pretend like I can afford one! The problem is that then, GM tinkers with the stuff before it gets here--rendering the product less than the sum of its parts. Now you have Opels, Saabs, Vauxhauls, Saturns, and Chevys sharing platforms with none of the individual products reaching their full potential. There's going to be a WRX dressed as a Saab 9-2. In the GTO's case, it's the engine that will save it...but then, it's the same engine that couldn't keep the Camaro and Trans Am alive...
