ChasingBlueSky 0 #53 September 12, 2003 QuoteThe "she" mentioned in the original post is me. And no, I don't think people are close-minded if they don't move away from their home state or city. I just thought it was strange that Bo had never moved away from Chicago. (besides a 8 week stay in Ireland while in school) In a way it must be nice b/c you can stay close with all your old friends, at least the ones that don't move away either. Pros and cons either way, I just thought it was "odd" to not have lived anywhere but Chicago. 30 Chicago winters. Yikes! If he still lived with his parents, then we'd have problems Yea, moved out from the parents place the day (literally, THAT day) I got my first real job (after I tired of that whole media/radio thing). So no worries there! Well, the winters aren't as bad as people think. Yea, it gets cold but it really makes you enjoy the summer that much more. I love that I have such a strong group of friends (some of them have made tandems) and I know they will always be there for me - easily one of the best "pro's" for staying in one place. It's not that I haven't traveled - been to a few countries, even some that don't speak English! I've seen a good portion of this country as well, and still have a passport. All that traveling has helped me appreciate and love Chicago even more. It's my kinda town!_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... TomAiello 26 #54 September 12, 2003 QuoteIt's not odd. Only 10% of US citizens hold passports. An even weirder statistic: The majority of Americans who have travelled overseas have never held a passport. This is because American military personnel overseas don't have to get passports (they travel by military transport), and can generally travel within the nation they are stationed (or the entire EU) in using military orders as ID. Sometimes it's a major pain, though, like when you want to hop across the Italian border to Croatia, and your travelling companion reveals that he doesn't have a passport at all--when he just flew in from Saudi Arabia.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
CanuckInUSA 0 #55 September 12, 2003 I grew up in Montreal Quebec and thankfully left that mixed up place at age 26 for Calgary Alberta (it's a great place to visit, but as an English person living in a French province it got to be too much for me). In Calgary I purchased a nice house and ironically told someone in early '97 that I would never leave. But less than a year later, there I was in Denver, CO. Where do I go from here? God only knows ... but unless someone who's okay with skydivers wants to marry me, eventually INS is going to kick my ass out of the USA. I could easily go back to Canada, but the skydiving isn't as good there. So who knows, maybe I could sell my house and move to a DZ in FL, AZ or CA as an illegal alien. If the Mexicans can live in the states illegally, why can't I? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

bill2 0 #59 September 12, 2003 Born in the bay area, moved from Oakland to Berkeley to Piedmont, then moved to Maryland, then Michigan then finished up high school in New Jersey. Spent a year in Denver at college before joining the Army and spent 3 years in Germany, got to almost all countries in Western Europe (including East Berlin back when it was East Berlin). Finished up the Army at Ft Ord, CA, got out and tried to be a ski bum in Colorado, came back to bay area in CA to go to night school and work and then finished up college in San Diego. Moved back to the bay area in 1982 and have been here ever since. Except for vacations in Canada (also been to Canada when I was much younger), Mexico, and the island of Martinique. A passport is definitely a good thing to have, and to use.
TheBachelor 5 #60 September 12, 2003 I moved 1600 miles away from Minnesota 3 weeks after high school, and I've never moved back. I noticed at my 10-year reunion that a high percentage of the people still lived in the state. It was good for me to go, although everyone's situation is unique. There are battered women? Raefordite 0 #66 September 23, 2003 I am also from Chicago. I moved to Florida a year out of college. Many of my friends felt I was crazy (they are still in Chicago today). My thought was if I didn't like it, I could always move back to Chicago! As it turns out, 4.5 years in Florida, now I've called North Carolina home for 13 years and love it. I don't miss the cost of living or the winter weather of Chicago! But I do take my family to Chicago at least once a year to visit.

usmcdannyboy 0 #73 September 23, 2003 Quote It must be such a great and weird feeling to have people around you that have known you your entire life. They've seen you as a dorky kid, a messed up teenager, through all the trends and all the evolutions before you became who you are now. actually ive moved 15 times in 28 years, lived in3 states and lived on a ship at sea most of the time for over a year...I find it liberating that not many people really know me...I can do anything I want and be who ever I want and not many people can tell me "thats not like you"...plus I have tons of friends in many different countries and states, I try to write or call once every couple of months and they do the same..life is short and I for one dont plan on letting it pass me byI am the light my son...What you seek is fire
