Awwwww...I wear boots and jeans all the time, except when going to the DZ or going to class in the summer, since both of those really do require shorts and sandals.

Not sure if you remember that or not.

I wear jeans, but not cowgirl jeans, and I currently do not have a pair of boots. But I wouldn't wear them to work anyway; I walk around barefoot at work. There's really no dress code here, so I get away with tank tops, bare feet, and shorts a lot. I love my job--comfort and ability to post all day long!

Do we work in the same office? We have no dress code either. I choose to wear cute girly sundresses on most days though. I am currently barefoot and just got done painting my toenails a fabulous shade of pink!!

LOL! It's funny, because when I wear a dress, the other 5 people in this office assume I've fallen ill...even a sundress is considered dressy for this office. I do it every once in awhile though, just to get a reaction!!!

QuoteI was having a chat the other night, and someone found it odd that I have never lived outside of Chicago - let alone never moved out of my home state.
That's actually not unusual. Apparently the world over, the majority of us are born, live and die within the same 25-40 mile radius. This figure is less applicable, but still dominant when it comes to North American population.
The documentary was commenting on how the CIA could gauge the general health of specific communities within a country, thus the country as a whole, by monitoring birth, death and cemetary zoning, etc.
So, you're actually part of a vast, silent majority that never leaves his/her hometown.

Edit to add: Oh yeah, I'm not part of that vast, silent majority, having moved 10 times, among 6 states in the past 10 years.

Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Quotesometimes i feel like im missing something not having roots or a hometown. on the other hand i have always felt free to go anywhere anytime.
Born in VA, moved to Oregon, back to a diff part of Va, to FL & now to Chicagoland area. Counting college I've been here 9 yrs - the longest of anywhere. But I've been trying to move for 4 years - call me scared.
I too always wished & was basically jealous of people that grew up in basically the same area. Keeping a few friends since childhood & knowing ever street in almost every town w/ in 30 miles.
However, it also amazes me that people don't leave. I couldn't imagine not traveling. I've been to 8 countries & am heading to the 9th tomorrow. I'm 100% jealous of Nacmacfeegle & his travels.
The US is a great place to call home & begin traveling, but the world is truly an amazing place!!
There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

Of course, I moved from Los Angeles are to a whole new country - Fresno. And I spend some work time now in a whole separate universe - the Bay Area. Shouldn't that count?

My Videos
1981 - Moved to Wichita, KS
1983 - Moved to Knoxville, TN
1995 - Moved to Lake Forest, IL (30 miles north of Chicago) for college
1999 - Moved to Chicago, IL after graduating and been here since.
Will probably move again...I have the same wanderlust as AndyMan!
As I said in the "Tips for non-natives visiting Chicago" thread, native Chicagoans NEVER leave. It's not that they don't travel or don't live somewhere else for a while, they just always come back to Chicago or the greater Chicagoland area. What I find odd are the people who have no desire to travel and no curiosity to visit other places. Why are people so provincial and xenophobic?

My father was in the RCMP (without the horse..) so we moved over all of Canada. The wanderlust is in me as well, although I've been in Alberta for 15 years. I guess it's nice to have a home base. I would never trade the experiences of moving and travelling though for the comfort of that home base. But it's not for everyone.

I don't think it's odd that you've lived in the same place all your life - maybe it means you're just happy there.

And no, I don't think people are close-minded if they don't move away from their home state or city. I just thought it was strange that Bo had never moved away from Chicago. (besides a 8 week stay in Ireland while in school)
In a way it must be nice b/c you can stay close with all your old friends, at least the ones that don't move away either.
Pros and cons either way, I just thought it was "odd" to not have lived anywhere but Chicago.
30 Chicago winters. Yikes!

I have also lived in two different states in my life. My college years are included in those states.
Do we get to count how many states/countries we visited?

Agreed T, also look at the fact that US citizens don't have to master a different language, drive on the other side of the road, or deal with funny money every couple of hundred clicks, let alone deal with border police and all that that entails..(you know what I mean.
