Getting a wedge mudflap alti-mount, need advice

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I'm purchasing a wedge mudflap alti-mount from chutingstar, listed here:

http://www.chutingstar.com/newgear_en/wedge-mudflap-alti-mount-2757.html

I can't decide which side I want to mount it on. I have an Altico Dolphin; RSL is on the right side, my reserve is a D-handle, and my chest strap loops through the metal on the right side. Looking for advice from people who own one, or can more clearly envision the pros/cons. The left side seems better for canopy piloting, but if it is safer to mount it on the right then I would rather do that.

EDIT: Also, I'm confused as to what to select for the mounting side option when ordering. Does "chest strap adapter" refer to the metal looping buckle, or the metal loop some rigs have that the strap is anchored to? The chest strap is sewn to the main webbing on my rig; can't figure out what exactly they mean. According the the company's website, the default is left-mounted opposite the looping buckle, but there's no default option on chuting star to use as reference.

Hi JJbb,

I have my alti-track mounted using the same mount. I mounted it on the right side because
1) I don't like not being able to SEE my reserve handle, 2) It sits RIGHT overtop of my cutaway handle, so I can just bring my right hand up to the base of the mount and the handle is right there, easy to find, and 3) I THINK the angle of the mount is conducive to it being mounted on the right, which has in angled inward.

I'd ask an experienced rigger his thoughts though, obviously.

Good luck!:)

Hi jjbb,

Does "chest strap adapter" refer to the metal looping buckle

To me, it does; see ParaGear part #H337. To see one try this link:

or the metal loop some rigs have that the strap is anchored to?

I think that here you are referring to a 'chest ring' that is usually an option on a rig; vs a sewn in chest strap.

Hope this helps a little with your understanding,

I wear The Wedge on all my rigs.
Seeing the handles is not an issue.
I prefer left side.
Chest strap adapter is a plastic link through which your chest strap would be semi-permanently routed, holding the Wedge more securely (it's already secure, but there is a greater level of security with the chest strap adapter).
No sewing is needed, the chest strap merely threads through the plastic and will never need unthreading unless you remove the Wedge.

I have one because I wingsuit a lot and I love it!
I decided to mount it on the right side because I want to always see my D-handle.
It doesn't interfere with the RSL. (also on the right side)

As a standard The Wedge is to be mounted on the left mud-flap, in other words: on the cheststrap attachment side (not the buckle side).
Customized versions are available.
Some WINGS Rigs have the buckle on the left side.
Therefore please indicate rig manufacturer and location of chest strap buckle when ordering.

Anyone have any pictures and or advice on how to mount an Alititrack on a lookma wedge? It just seems a bit large on the wedge.

I currently have mine mounted with the cable wrapped around somewhat securing it but it's still not as completely clean or secure as I would want it to be. Advice?
