The New Republic magazine is not a fan of GWB

It's my opinion that the majority of people that hate Fox News do so because Fox is effective. Fox shows people that there is more to the news than what the networks show. IMO if Rupert was a liberal most of his detractors would look the other way, like they did when Clinton was being impeached.

I have a few former co-workers that are employed by Rupert.....one of which that has a name that would be recognized by most of the people on here if I mentioned him by name. You should here what this person has had to say about internal memos when Rupert took over that newspaper, and internal memos on how there were now two conservative papers in town. Also, the first change to that paper was the H U G E font on the front page every day, less story, and more graphic pictures.

The complaining about how conservative FoxNews is pretty much right on. Most people in the media will admit that it seems that news channel has an axe to grind. Now, is that wrong? Well, some think Rupert does this only to make more money. Either way - the news is being manipulated, which doesn't help anyone.

You are judging news by if you "like" them or not.

You also forget that CNN is much more international then Fox, i.e. CNN is used many times more by international audiences then Fox. CNN is catering to that to a degree.

Quote

The CNN link (click here) cites a Reuters report, with a bunch of analysts. Reuters for crying out loud...so far f**kn* left they would've shamed Pravda during the Cold War if they could run con-currently in Moscow 1983. Who are the famed analysts? Oh, a veritible who's-who of BS: Mohamed Al-Sayed, deputy director of Cairo's Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies; Lee Feinstein, Washington director of the Council on Foreign Relations; Ken Weinstein, vice president of the Washington-based Hudson Institute; Guillaume Parmentier, director, French Center on the United States at the French Institute for International Relations; Leon Charney, adviser to President Jimmy Carter on the Camp David Accords and now moderator of a television talk show; Robert Johansen, professor, University of Notre Dame; Manuel Coma, analyst, Spain's Royal Elcano Institute. This is news? WTF?

The rest of the non-political items appear to be equally tagged.

There is a design at work. Maybe Fox is right of center, but they don't fluff it with bullsh*t from French commentators, college professors, Egyptian somebodies with only a minor link to a "full" story with devotes more to Chirac's speech and Kofi Annan than our President. (449 words vs. 649)

Your statement that Reuters is a left wing communist news service discredit your post. Can you give any evidence based on fact?

Again, CNN has a large international audience. This does influence their angle and I think they are better for that. The way you are discounting any international commentators is exactly the one-eyed American view point that got the current administration into trouble in Iraq and now has them standing cap in hand at the UN.
CNN giving space to Annan and Chirac seems reasonable in this context. The fact that those crucial speeches (in regard to if the US will get help from the UN) combined get 100 words more coverage can hardly be called bias.

Reading some other news services e.g. BBC it seems to me that CNN covered the issue better then Fox. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3134326.stm

First, CNN made their headliner an opinion. Not fact. That is overt bias.

Second, 200 words can say a lot. It can infer even more.

Third, CNN's large "international" audience should not influence their angle at all. That's my point. Instead, their political headline does not report, it purports. They should not be "catering". This is one reason why CNN is no longer the top network in the US.

Sure, it might. Many editors/owners/journalists have strong beliefs one way or the other; in many cases (Murdoch as a case in point) they spill into their media outlets.

> I'm not sure you can simply discount it as a "flame war".

I'm not discounting it; just qualifying it as a quickly-written reply to a 'foe' on an internet forum. I judge such things differently than I would an article in print that has been proofread, vetted etc for publication. (The website makes it clear that it's a day-by-day, web-only discussion.)

Oh yeah liberals proud they are tolorant...

At a fund raiser for Dean the other night, Al Franken got up in front of the audience and said (good politics franken)

Brit hume is an ASSHOLE!!! He is Fucking shameless. What a FUCKING SHAMELESS ASSHOLE.

That is great Dean. I know I would want someone like that in my corner. In public at a political fund raiser which represents you... Not a smart man.

You can learn a lot about a person by the company they keep.

Well said.

The fact is, CNN's ratings have gone down. There is something else the public would like to see. To say fox news slants right and CNN doen NOT slant left is crazy talk.

Quade, Bill - You don't like fox new... Fine, I get it. I don't like the Coverup News Network (cnn) Fine. But to say Fox is not telling the truth and is not a reliable sorce is crap. Back it up or I say, You are a Lier. All this shows you have little tolance for a "different" view. News unfortunately does have a spin and a slant. Not liking Fox is all the more reason why you should understand why I don't like CNN.

I didn't say that.

I take offense at that! I am not a stringed instrument!

Fine with me. Watch whatever you want.

I would read Al Franken's "Lies and the Lying Liars that tell them...A Fair and Balanced Look st the Right" While I don't agree on a lot of things the book talks about, it does have some interesting thoughts on Clinton, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity. Those last two are total idiots and I can't believe how many people listen to them blindly.

And if you think that people aren't starting to tire of GWB you might want to look at the latest polls for the last few months. The honeymoon is definitely over.

I tend to agree with you that Hannity and Coulter are idiots, but I will argue that Franken is just as much of a Charactor Assassin and idiot as the 2 previously mentioned people. Listening to Franken blindly is just as dangerous.

Al franken you must realize is a Radical lefty. Just as scarry a person as a radical righty.

I (notice I said "I") would never vote for someone who openly associates with and befriends Franken.

Currently the most egregious cases stem from Rupert Murdock and his worldwide influences.

I'm unaware of these cases. Could you enlighten me?

Why don't you do a little research of your own on Rupert Murdoch's history.

A book taking aim at Al Franken should be entitled:

"Hate and the Hating Haters that spew it, a Fair and Balanced Look at Intolerant Socialists".

That would be titties and sensationalism? So it's OK to sensationalize (which he has admitted is more profitable, therefore OK) as long as you make a profit?

There's a reason it's called the lowest common denominator.

BTW, Franken's work, while brilliantly funny, isn't exactly an original concept.

Take a look at this series of articles on FAIR.ORG.

So, you shouldn't really be mad at him just because he's way funnier than any of the guys on the far right. (And we all know what a chuckle-fest O'Reilly is.) ;)

Dennis Miller is doing extremely well I think, and he's on FOX NEWS.:D

Ok, ya got me there. Miller is pretty freekin' funny.

Hate the fact he's currently working for the right wing, but yeah, he's funny.

OK, so how does everyone feel about Jon Stuart?

Is The Daily Show left, center or right in their amusement of the news? ;)

I love John Stuart, and I would argue that it is neither right or left. It changes with the times. Let's face it they will never support any administration...The Daily Show's whole premise is to mock the news and the government.

Put a lefty in the white house and they will mock them.

And I'll even grant you that Real Time with Bill Maher is way-way freekin' left of center, but then again, neither Maher nor Stuart is real news.

Although, I am impressed that they are able to have real news guests on. Amazed in fact.

I laugh at humor directed at the right or the left. I actually find a bunch of skydivers arguing about politics to be hilarious. It just seems to go against who we are. I can't think of many politicians (D or R) that I'd want hanging out at the DZ. First party at the DZ and they would run like hell.

Actually, that's more where I was going with Stuart as well.

So, there isn't any real comedic news bias at least. We have Maher on the left, Stuart in the middle and Miller on the right.

Fair and balanced mocking for all. ;)
