lummy 4 #27 September 24, 2003 on a side note (since we're talking wireless) Since I scored big time on my Orinoco AP-2000, I hav ehe option of going dual mode. I've got a B in the one slot and I'm debating on whether to go G (forced at G only) in the other or go A. I'm thinking that even tho A has a samller coverage, I'd be better off in the 5ghz band where there'll be less interference.. Opinions?I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Cornholio 0 #29 September 24, 2003 Less interferenece from what ? You live next to a power plant or industrial area ? Got lots of wireless phones ? If not, you really don't have too much to worry. You can change the channel if it gives you problems, but I've yet to hear of someone running into interference problems. I'd go with the G just cause of the backwards compatibility. I run B at home and am quite happy with it. The bottleneck is in the cable link, not the wireless. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! lummy 4 #30 September 25, 2003 I have 2 access points running B (actually 3, but I plan on getting rid of one) at the moment, one on each side of the house, and 3 wireless phones. If I go forced only G, that would be another channel in the 2.4 ghz. I don't really need the backwards compatibility since I already have a B network. Besides, if you mix B and G, you're going to only get B speeds anyways. Gosh, I'm SUCH a geek ;)I promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Amazon 7 #32 September 25, 2003 QuoteSometimes I feel like the only person still using a dial up motem. Nope I live in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.. and no cable or DSL and the SAT systems have too much latency to connect to our corporate network so it would be a waste of money... At work... I have a workstation with a GIGe connection.. its SOOOOOOO nice to be connected to a VERY fast network JEanne
WFFC 1 #33 September 25, 2003 QuoteI'm on cable at home, although I am trying to get wireless at my house. This local company offers T1 speeds up AND down and burstable 6-8 Mbits/sec. Wooop!! Yeah...but do you have a static IP to go with your highspeed? 65.43.59.
