Vallerina 2 #1 September 26, 2003 Is there a way I can attach a side car thingy to a sportbike? I was thinking I could do something with skateboards and rope, but I am not sure if that's the safest route. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

So, you guys are telling me that the skateboard and rope idea is not safe, and the cops might pull us over? I guess I'll rethink that one. What else could I use to make one and have it toted alongside? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

PLFKING 4 #8 September 26, 2003 I'd go with the "skateboard and rope" idea......it couldn't be any more dangerous than sitting on a bike behind WB. Don

Nick 0 #12 September 26, 2003 No worries. The thing in the link is only made for BMW Moto Guzzi but there may be something similar for whatever you've got, or it may be adapable. Personnaly I like the idea of a skateboard and some rope (Will have to try that one round the DZ perimeter track!). Nick Gravity- It's not just a good idea, it's the LAW! Tonto 1 #13 September 26, 2003 There are several aspects to consider. Here (In SA) a sidecar is seperatly licenced, like a trailer would be. It needs it's own roadworthy certificate, and the rider needs to be licenced to ride a bike with a sidecar. Trust me - its a whole new ball game, and not just a shift in steering and braking geometry. Check with the manufacturer to see if a sidecar is recomended or manufactured for your motorcycle. Unless it's a Formula Ugly - I doubt it. Don't become a Darwin Award recipient. Edited to add: Just checked out that link. Looks cool and will get you around half the points I mentioned. Still going to be really interesting when you grab a handfull or try doing endo's though... Good luck! tIt's the year of the Pig.

bill2 0 #15 September 26, 2003 You're right, putting on a side care makes the bike handle very differently. You need training, but there's no license for it here in the US. There are ways to attach a side care but it's a fair amount of work; I haven't heard of one being attached to a sportbike, most of the models are built for specific bike makes, such as BMW and Moto Guzzi's as was mentioned in an earlier post. I'm sure your butt will fit fine on the sport bike, or tell him to get a different bike.
