Sheppardb. 0 #1 July 31, 2011 Hi folks.I am not a sky diver.I joined this site to ask about a piece of gear I found. If that is considered an intrusion on this community please let me know and I will delete my post an account and search for answers elsewhere. While discarding some trash at my storage space I found an Altimaster ll in a box beside the dumpster along with other items that lead me to beleive it is U.S. Army issue.I found a pic on line of one that is similar but not exact. The one I found does not have a yellow zone between the numbers 2 and three. It does have a red zone between 0 and 2.5.Also has a black leather holster, and there is a small dial on the top left. I was thinking it would be something cool to give my six year old,but would like to know more about its value first.Quote
 alec86 0 #2 July 31, 2011 Altimaster ll, depending on the model they can cost $180 new, $100 second hand, also depends if it works. and the age http://www.chutingstar.com/newgear_en/altimaster-ii.htmlSpank the
 nigel99 617 #3 July 31, 2011 It may be broken, but I don't see a skydiver throwing away equipment that can be sold very easily if working. Try setting the dial to zero and then watch it as the weather changes, or take a drive up a hill and check the reading. I don't know if you live near a dropzone, but it might be worth finding out if there have been reports of stolen equipment. It may be worth taking a drive out to the nearest dz to ask around. It is a small community and if stolen someone will be grateful, who knows you might get some free beer. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. They did not have the yellow warning area. The retail new for $180. One that old sold new for $49.95.
