AggieDave 6 #1 September 29, 2003 This is pretty funny. Atleast it is to me. Friday evening, sunset load our 182 takes 4 of us up to 4k for some H&P love, since it was already too late to even go to altitude. So we go out, deploy and fly around a bit, then I go over to where I want to be to setup for my swoop (right next to the golf cart so I can swoop by the cart). I get to the altitude I want, pull a kick'n 270 and drop out of the sky (jumping a Vengence demo). All in all, it had to have been one of the best swoops I've ever done, it was fast, and went forever. After I stop I loosen my leg straps, gather my canopy, toss it over my shoulder and start walking back to the cart for a lazy ride to the hanger. When I turn around to face the cart I see a white car sitting there on the tarmac next to the cart, that wasn't there before. I get up there to find out that I scared the shit out of some random women who was driving by on the highway that the airport is on. She saw us flying around under canopy and was watching until she saw my 270 and lost me diving below her siteline due to the hangers. She thought I just dropped out of the sky and died, but she pulled into the airport in time to see me finish the end of my swoop and stop standing up. She was laughing about it then, but apparently I really startled her. I thought that was pretty funny. This happen to anyone else before?--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Lefty 0 #2 September 29, 2003 Woah, that must have been at least a 2 minute swoop given the time it takes me to get from the main road to where I can see the landing area. If only I can be as good as you someday, Dave. - LeftyProvoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Kris 0 #7 September 30, 2003 My rigger went buzzing by the staff golf-cart a few years ago. Full-on swoop, hair on fire. His AFF student's mom was in the golf-cart. When he went screaming by he scared her so bad she wet herself.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
TitaniumLegs 8 #8 September 30, 2003 Close. At Skydive Monterey Bay, the roads around the airport are slightly obscured by a slight berm. Most of the nearest houses have trees blocking the line of sight. A few years ago, we had some whuffo call 911 a couple times after seeing the top 3/4 of hook turns. Cops and ambulances would show up asking where the injured jumper was. Then they would try to bill us for the dispatch. We said "When we call, we'll pay." (>o|-< If you don't believe me, ask me.
