PhillyKev 0 #2 September 29, 2003 Quoteabout two of every 10 drivers say they have fallen asleep while driving in the past year. Holy shit!! Are people that freakin' irresponsible and stupid? I've never fallen asleep behind the wheel. I've been drowsy, so, you know what? I pulled over. 1 out of 5??? That's madness!!!
yardhippie 0 #3 September 29, 2003 Hell Ive fallen asleep on the road in Jersey! Its called rush hour, or construction, or pile-up, or homless person naked on the side of the road. Hell anything will cause a skreeching halt up there. yardhippie 0 #5 September 29, 2003 I think that if the general public REALLY knew, how long a lot of those truck triver had been up at anyone time they wouldnt get anywhere near them. For example: 24 hours/day- 10 hours driving, 15 hours (on duty) (legally), 3 hours (fueling, eating, ), 1-2 hours (shower-if applicable), an no telling how many hours winding down (tv, movies, bar, etc) thats only 4 hours for sleep. PhillyKev 0 #7 September 29, 2003 Oh, I know...but it said 2 out of 10 drivers....that's way more than just the long distance truckers. Besides...at least the truckers are hopped up on goofballs

kai2k1 0 #9 September 29, 2003 I am a truck driver, 98% of us out here play by the rules and do not take stimulants of any kind. its the 2% that give all the rest of us a bad name. I think you should do a little more research before you start bashing truck drivers. Not to mention all the crap we put up with ( being cut off, flipped off,) try stopping an 80,000 lb vehicle when the car in front of you decides to slam on the brakes. Most people dont realize that we are just trying to make a living for our families like everyone else. If you take a look at the highway safety statistics 80% of accidents involving a big truck are not the truck drivers fault. Furthermore effective Jan 4, the 8 hours of down time is being increased to 10 hours. 4 hours of sleep?? when was the last time you went to work on that or less?? aero04 0 #10 September 30, 2003 Yes, I must admit I fell asleep once. I had the cruise control set at 70 and woke up to find myself driving half in the grass and half on the road. I was in the left lane of a two lane highway. I slowed a bit and tried to get back on the road and well, it was a fun ride when the truck spun 90 degrees to the right, then 270 degrees to the left and I ended up in the median between the road. That sure was an eye opener for me.

Wasn't that non-narcotic stimulant legalized recently? I can't remember the name of it, but it was designed specifically to allow longer waking times without brain fatigue... ??So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! selbbub78 0 #13 September 30, 2003 Here's the thing, no one knows how to drive in jersey, therefore they need to put out silly little laws out there...."Women fake orgasms - men fake whole relationships" – Sharon Stone "The world is my dropzone" (wise crewdog quote) "The light dims, until full darkness pierces into the world."-KDM
