CanuckInUSA 0 #26 September 29, 2003 QuoteBut the King Air is back now, and the Otter is gone, so you can come home again. Robert ... unless my sources are incorrect (which I doubt they are), the King Air experienced a traumatic engine fire late Saturday afternoon and thank God nobody was hurt. Now this incident is not to be confused with the King Air being in the shop for the last couple of weeks while an Eloy Otter was in town. I don't know what Mile-Hi's management/owners are planning on doing, but I'm left wondering what will happen to the DZ. Something like this could be too much for the owner and they may just choose to throw their cards in. I don't know??? WFFC 1 #27 September 29, 2003 It wasn't a 'traumatic' engine fire. Had a flameout, contained within the combustion chamber. Downside is it needs a new left motor now.

Fire exiting the exhaust of a PT-6 is not a flame-out. A flame-out doesn't destroy the engine. Derek
ryoder 1,590 #29 September 29, 2003 Oh, crap! It must have happened after I left the day. I made 5 dives on Saturday, one of which gave me an opening firm enough that it set back my recovery from the slammer a week ago, so I didn't go out Sunday. Has anyone heard if there is a possibility of bringing the Otter back? BTW Why does the guy from *Chicago* have the most details???"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. I hate saying "I heard", but I heard that the gear box went out, and something(?) went into the engine. Therefore, a new engine is needed. This is a little more dramatic than a flame-out. Good news is they had plenty of altitude - 5,000 feet. They had just let out a hop-n-pop, throttled back up to continue to climb, and then the gearbox was damaged. The other good news is they had a good pilot that landed it safely after everyone was out. I hope they bring Eloy's Otter back out Bob - come out and play with us in Brush.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD

manifestbitch 0 #33 September 30, 2003 Hey turtle, you can come visit me in Ft. Collins! I should be up there by then. I think Brush is the closest to me, but Mile High might be the best one if you're coming from Denver. cheers, Amanda
turtlespeed 226 #34 September 30, 2003 Sadly, I'm not going to be able to afford the plane ticket. I could have done something about that, but I can't get the time off either.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
