Gawain 0 #12 September 30, 2003 QuoteI admit it. I have a problem. Let's verify that before the rescue squad comes for ya... CAFFEINE ADDICT'S QUIZ Do you want to know if you suffer from "Alertness Deficit Disorder" (ADD)? Then just take this simple quiz. These questions will help us to determine whether or not you suffer from this terrible affliction; the only known cure for which is caffeine. ADD takes the lives of millions of Americans, hundreds of Canadians, and a handful of Ugandans every year. If that doesn't scare you, let's just say that you are more susceptible than anyone else...YES, YOU! If you suffer from this disease, missing just one trip to Starbucks could be FATAL. The following series of Yes/No questions will allow us to determine your Addiction Factor(TM). Keep track of the number of Yes and No answers you get and chart yourself at the end. Remember: Prevention is the best medicine. Or was it laughter? Either way, read on. 1. Do you use coffee to escape from your problems? 2. Do you eat spoonfuls of instant coffee because it's easier? 3. Have you ever woken up in a puddle of your own coffee? 4. Do you find that it's easier to drink more coffee than go to sleep? ...a) Have you ever drunk cold coffee? ...b) Right out of the pot? 5. Do you spend more than 20% of your income on coffee and/or coffee related products? 6. Does your coffee cup resemble a beer stein? 7. Has anyone ever told you that you "have a problem"? 8. Do you need coffee: ...a) ...to get up in the morning? ...b) ...to get out of bed? ...c) ...to be injected intravenously to stimulate blood-flow? 9. Do you own a "Coffee Helmet"? (For the culturally ignorant, a coffee-helmet is a hat with coffee-cups attached to it and a straw coming out of each cup leading to the mouth, used for hands-free drinking.) 10. Do Native North American Aboriginal Indian Peoples call you "Ona mac towanda" (Smells-like-coffee)? 11. Does your doctor measure your heartbeat on the Richter scale as well as by its frequency? 12. Have you ever sold personal or other people's possessions just to get your fix for the day? 13. Does the phrase "swiss water decaffeinated" strike terror into your heart? 14. Do you grind your own coffee? 17. Do you grow your own coffee? 18. Have you ever been fired from a job because you're "drinking their profits"? 19. Do you know Juan Valdez? ...a) ...and his donkey? ...b) ...intimately? 20. Do you salivate uncontrollably whenever you hear dripping water? 21. Is sleep a hobby of yours? ...a) ...that you don't like? ...b) ...because it's too frustrating? Response Ratio Addiction Factor Yes/No -- Analysis 20-22/0-2 -- You are a well-rounded member of society with a love for life and you are very wise. 17-19/3-5 -- You are a slightly jagged member of society, life’s okay but it could be better and you are relatively naïve. 0-16/6-22 -- What are you, some kinda nature-freak tree-hugger?! Coffee’s not good enough for you, huh? Here, have some more TOFU! How about some Alfafa Tea?! Of course...my own score reflected a well-rounded member of society... Dagny 0 #13 September 30, 2003 Here's a fun little interview technique I learned to screen patients for alcohol "problems", but I think it applies here to all you caffeine addicts: Have you ever felt you should cut down on your drinking? Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking? Have you ever felt guilty about your drinking? Do you ever drink as an eye-opener first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I recommend seeking therapy at the Starbucks closest to you. We're a drinking group with a skydiving problem! Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali

Vallerina 2 #20 September 30, 2003 My old roommate had the worst caffeine addiction I've ever seen. She had a thing for Diet Dr. Pepper with more Dr. Pepper taste! When we were in the dorms, we noticed that Betsy drank way too much of it (she had more than me, and I was averaging 4 cans a day or so.) So, I went in and confiscated her pop. She had three cases!!! She didn't freak out or get mad at me, which was odd. It turns out, she had 2 "back up" cases of pop! She would also wake up in the middle of the night, open up a Diet Dr. Pepper and drink about half of it. The worst part of it was that she would be sleep walking through it. She would have no recollection of doing it nor was she even "awake" while doing it. It was bad. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
Clownburner 0 #21 September 30, 2003 That's not a caffiene addiction. I've seen it before, that's an Aspartame addition. It's way nastier. Aspartame is the devil! The giveaway is the diet soda and the somnolent drinking. Not something that happens with caffiene alone. I used to drink 32-oz espressos every night. And in high-school, we'd drop two no-doz tablets into hot espresso until they dissolved, then pour that into a bottle of Jolt.
