SpeedRacer 1 #1 September 18, 2003 well, we in Maryland are about to get hit by hurricane Isabel, almost directly. So I've laid in supplies. We may be facing torrential rain & wind strong enough to knock down power lines. So I have candles & flashlights etc. But since there won't be anything to do or anywhere to go around here, I've also laid in a supply of chilled homebrewed beer, gin and tonic, chardonnay, and cabernet sauvignon... ....I don't have a lot of experience with hurricanes, are these the proper supplies?? Gawain 0 #2 September 18, 2003 Have you provided proper protection for your rig? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! SpeedRacer 1 #3 September 18, 2003 hmmm..well when the center gets here, we could get 90 or 100 mph winds. Who needs Skyventure? Speed Racer --------------------------------------------------

GroundZero 0 #5 September 18, 2003 ...assuming that someone else is responsible for the plywood, (if needed), do you have your tub filled with water.... (like that matters!) get everyone staying local for the party and count the party supplies... got to have the drinks and such... I mean, who'd be happy with hearing... "Well, we have a bathtub full of water, is anyone thirsty?" Plan for the party and party the plan. CHris
PhillyKev 0 #6 September 18, 2003 You're missing some key things! You need vodka, rum, tequila, fruit juices, lots of ice and a blender. How else are you going to make Hurricanes(TM).
turtlespeed 226 #7 September 18, 2003 QuoteYou're missing some key things! You need vodka, rum, tequila, fruit juices, lots of ice and a blender. How else are you going to make Hurricanes(TM). Ack! Run out right now and buy a generator to run the blender. You also need a generous supply of ice. Seriously, water can be contaminated, the bathtub thing is a good idea, so you can boil it later. Be careful, and stay away from the windows. They did some tests and threw a 2x4 about 4'long into a wind tunnel that was going about 100 mph, the 2x4 went into the plywood and just kept on going...I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
TheMonkey 0 #8 September 18, 2003 actually the water in the tub is used so you can flush the dumper when a grumpy comes on and the water mains are busted! more liquor is needed, and turtlespeed is spot on, ice is key --------------------- Never argue with an idiot, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience! Luv2Fall 0 #9 September 18, 2003 Have both of my generators ready............glad one of them can run my water pump. I have Cyalume lights, oil lamps, plenty of food, extra bottle water in case of a problem with my generators, water pump for my basement, batteries, gas, beer, liquor, coffee, things put away outside, cell phones fully charged, scanner ready, trench w/ outlet dug around my house to reduce flooding....damn my arms are sore from digging......etc, etc. Wish I could board up my windows.......oh well, and here's to hoping that the huge trees around the house doesn't fall on it. Raefordite 0 #17 September 19, 2003 Hurricane Isabel wasn't too bad for us in Raeford. We have a little hurricane party at the house (i.e. get all the RV & trailer folks out of their homes) going on. Only one rescue on the 4-wheeler to cut up a medium sized tree in the way. No power line problems. Isabel is on her last legs here now. Winds are down to the teens and gusts around 30 mph, not much more rain. We expect great weather over the next 3 days! But lots of clean up tomorrow. dbattman 0 #18 September 19, 2003 I'm up in Toronto and we're not expecting much by the time it gets here, but I laid in a supply myself just in case. Yeah, like I need an excuse anyways. Now, how do I sneak it all past the customs man at the border?
SpeedRacer 1 #19 September 19, 2003 well, so far, we've had a few 5-second power failures. looks like a lot of hype; not much else is happening here, Otherwise I'd be unable to post. shit, its 11 PM....maybe I should be guarding against a hangover tomorrow??? what do you think?? or should I drink till my eyes roll back & forget about it??? Luv2Fall 0 #21 September 30, 2003 It nailed my ass.........lost power for nine days and my internet access for twelve days. I live on an acre and a half of trees and quite a few had uprooted. Luckily, none hit neither my cars nor my home, but some of my neighbors didn't fair as well.
