AggieDave 6 #1 September 30, 2003 Yup, *finally* after some friends of mine have been on me for the past 6 months to go play an open mic night, I'm going to do it. Kinda funny, though, I've been a performing musician for a bit over 10 years playing solos for as many as 20,000 people on the marching field, but I've never tried to do it for real, alone just me and a guitar...so I'm a bit nervous. Doubly so since I'm going to play some songs that I've written, and more importantly, this is the night that I'm going to play "I Will Remember" the Bonfire rememberance song I wrote, to people who there with me. The only people that have heard it thus far are some friends of mine that weren't at A&M during that, so now I'll have a real audience of true judges. So...wish me luck, I'll let everyone know how it went.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Zeemax 0 #2 September 30, 2003 Major vibes AD.. i know about that shit, well the other side of it anyway. I'm a radio producer and so am very caught up in the whole music industry. It takes big steel balls to perform solo. The best of luck to you and make sure you get the engineer to record you a desk feed Also, this will be a beer performance no doubt? AggieDave 6 #3 September 30, 2003 Sorta a beer performance, since I did play with a mic and my guitar at the boogie, but that was a song another jumper wrote a long time ago about dating the riggers wife (one hell of a song, btw)...so yeah, I guess it would be a beer performance for the first mic-ed performace of a song I wrote. I don't think I can get a recording of it...its a bar in town and basically they just have a PA setup without any sound guys really. Not as bad as that sounds, but not as good as it could be either.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
Kramer 0 #4 September 30, 2003 Dave- I do stand-up comedy in front of crowds. I'd rather jump out of a plane, I get WAY nervous going up on stage! firediver 0 #12 October 1, 2003 Vibes to ya bro...been there...believe me, you'll love it. Everyone at an open mic knows the deal...people are there getting their chops down....this isn't a crowd that paid $50 a seat. Everyone appreciates the efforts of everyone else...just groove with it... of course, I play bass, so i don't really care about you 6 string prima donnas anyway.. Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary!

Snowwhite 0 #14 October 1, 2003 Cool, really enjoy what you are doing, just like you do when you play at home. Don't worry about what anyone else is thinking, just play to you, and it will go really well. Oh yea, and look over their heads if you look at the audience, they will think that you are making eye contact with them, but it doesn't make you nearly as nervous as actual eye contact does. Don't do the 'imagine them in their underwear' thing, that will just make you laugh when you see how weird they all are.....skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
AggieDave 6 #15 October 1, 2003 Just got back. It went pretty good, only screwed up a little bit in my playing. Come to find out, I wasn't quite close enough to the mic/the mic wasn't up enough, so sometimes my lyrics got drowned out by my playing, BUT that may have been a good thing... Well, I'm going to do it again soon, since I did have fun, but I want to write some new songs to play next time, since the handful I have now would get old if I played them everytime. I've got to get this down, so I can play in the DZ.com band in Eloy.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Zeemax 0 #18 October 1, 2003 well done dave You should get a portable recorder like an MD or something. Its good to have a record of when you play so you can listen back to it, work out what happend then change any bits that need it! Most MD recorders come with a little stero mic, just put it near the PA so you pick up your playing and the audience's reaction. You'd be suprised the quality you can get. Theres already a DZ.com band? can i audition?Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
