Gawain 0 #1 October 1, 2003 ....Arianna Huffington quits in her run to be elected Governor in the California recall election. She is urging her massive force of a voters' following (somewhere less than 1%) to try and stop Arnold from displacing Gray Davis. Here's one article from (you guess it Paul ) Fox News.... This nutcake was somewhere left of Bustamante and somewhere right of that Green Party socialist dude...can't remember his name. How will we manage with this political void? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! quade 4 #2 October 1, 2003 Huffington is a non-issue -- always was. Ok, I know this is going to surprise a LOT of folks so pay attention to what I'm about to say. Vote McClintock. I know, right about now you're saying to yourself, "I thought quade was a dyed in the wool liberal left-wing wacko democrat!" Well, maybe, but McClintock is the only person left in the running that has more than two grey cells and I'd rather have him in office than Arnold any day. At least McClintock has experience and some sort of fiscal sense.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Gawain 0 #4 October 1, 2003 QuoteVote McClintock. I would, but as he has been within the political electorate for several dozen years, I do not believe his specific plans will hold when they meet the "acid test". I just don't see him as a political executive. He likes being in the trenches. I don't think he could prosecute the Governor's office effectively. Politics is about compromise. McClintock does not know how to do that, and it has soured resources and relationships that share a common goal on broader issues. But (and this is to your point) he is razor sharp on the financial issues. Personally, I would rather vote for McClintock for Controller or have Schwarzeneggar appoint him at a high level within the government on an audit or something like that.So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! quade 4 #6 October 1, 2003 So, prediction-wise (not an endorsement, just a prediction), is that McClintock and Arnold split and Bustamante does win. I made this prediction several weeks ago, so let's see how accurate the FutureCam turns out to be.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
billvon 3,120 #7 October 1, 2003 No suprise there. Thank god - I don't think I could take another one of her shrill anti-something diatribes. Why do so many elections devolve to choosing the least of several evils?
Gawain 0 #8 October 1, 2003 The latest polls indicate that a split will not help Bustamante. (or as John&Ken say: BustaMeCha) But if that changes, I may vote "no" on the recall in order to prevent Bustamante from getting in office (heaven help us if that happens). So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! miked10270 0 #10 October 1, 2003 Err... Hasn't your supreme Court said who's won yet? Wouldn't that save both time AND money in the whole election process? Isn't saving time & money the American way? I heard that GW won in 2004 with a landslide 11% of the popular vote. Taking the piss out of the FrenchAmericans since before it was fashionable. It's going to come down to an unpopular incumbent, a hollywood action figure, and a guy who wants to license illegal immigrants. Ah, american politics. PhillyKev 0 #13 October 1, 2003 I think it's ironic that the republican tactic of going for the recall has resulted in the fast tracking of ultra-liberal legislation being pushed through so it can be signed while Gray is still in office. He's even signed the bill giving illegals driver's licenses with fewer restrictions than the bill he vetoed previously for not being restrictive enough. billvon 3,120 #14 October 1, 2003 From The Onion: Schwarzenegger Running Out Of Movie-Related Campaign Slogans LOS ANGELES—Two months after he announced his candidacy for the California gubernatorial recall election, Arnold Schwarzenegger is running out of movie-related campaign quips. "Government and special-interest groups should not be 'Twins,'" the actor said during the Sept. 24 debate. At a fundraising breakfast Monday, the actor told a confused group of business leaders, "I will 'Jingle All The Way' to Sacramento!" Breakfast attendee Ken Straus said Schwarzenegger "really hit the bottom of the barrel" minutes later, when the actor announced, "In the movies, I played Hercules going bananas. But it's the tax-and-spend Democrats who are really going bananas."
Sebazz1 2 #15 October 1, 2003 I was reading an article in a local paper at lunch that said Arnold has such a good chance because of strong support in Southern California. I wish the folks in So Cal wouldn't bring the rest of us "normal" Californians down to your level. I vote they add a section to the upcoming ballot for whether So Cal and Nor Cal should be seperate states. I vote we split the state just north of Santa Barbara Honestly the general consensus around here seems to be "no" on the recall or "no" on Arnold. It's frikken So Cal that's hosin us... Why couldn't it at least be a decent actor like say SIR Anthony Hopkins?

The brain drain and the shrinkage in the tech center from Silicon Vally, is one of the major components in the revenue shortage for the state. With that, there have been record foreclosures in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties I read somewhere. Isn't SF the place that bicyclists and motorists have monthly riots? And don't you have Willie Brown running things up there? I think they're pissed off about not getting a bike lane on the new bay bridge or somethin..... Quote And don't you have Willie Brown running things up there? As I recall, he's defending the cops who stole food from a waiter and then beat him up. The cop who did the beating was let go (from SFPD). I think he's still on trial. Slick Willy was just pissed that his buds were being targeted by the EVIL DA. And I never quite understood that, the burrito's aren't THAT good.. Sebazz1 2 #22 October 1, 2003 Yeah yeah yeah... Just for that where cutting off your water supply I was just pointing out that Ah-nold has a lot of support in So Cal., more so than up North. According to the article I read. While the Silicon Valley may not be anywhere near where it was one day let's not forget how much money all those start up's did pump into the state economy when things where good. And I have always thought of San Diego as a isolated island of normalcy down there.... Can't let Arnold win can't can't can't...

lawrocket 3 #24 October 1, 2003 Hey, I don't mind slitting it north of Santa Barbara. I'll tell you what, so long as you let us keep it up to Buellton (we'll keep the Firestone Brewery), I'll let you all have the rest. You Norcal weirdos can't truly appreciate the joys of SB. Having lived in Santa Clara for a couple years myself, and working all around that area, it was the professional politicians that were overspending all that revenue projecting that the dot-coms wouldn't bust out and there would be an endless flow of 23 year old millionaires. I love the Bay Area...used to roller blade out there by Moffet in Mtn View. Anyway, what are your choices, Vote no, and everyone's BMW from SF to Burlingame to Sunnyvale to San Ramon is 300% just to have in Cali. Vote for Bustamante, keep the 300% and have $10B in new taxes. Ahnold or McClintock and shake up Sacramento repeal the fee increase, stop outspending revenues by 30% get the tech sector percilating again. You guys need to speed things up again! Last I was up on US101 and people were doing 70MPH...WTF? That was the damn indy-speedway when I lived there. 70 would get you rearended and in a hospital.
