skybytch 273 #1 October 7, 2003 I'm not. So don't even go there. Since I left my oh-so-cool station wagon in California, I knew I was going to have to buy something once I got here. Luckily the house I've been "sitting" at for the past couple weeks included use of a vehicle. But that all ends on Friday when the guy who lives here gets back from his trip. But it's all good, cuz I found a car to buy today. It's a 1990 Plymouth Voyager - yup, a minivan (STFU!!! ). Looks to be in pretty good shape overall; no dents or dings, interior is clean and all there, AC is cold, runs great. Only $1500. I gave the guy a deposit to hold it for me til Friday when I'll have the rest of the money. I'm excited. It's the perfect vehicle for me right now - lots of room for my dog, works as a tent if I need to crash somewhere, will carry lots of crap, and it so domestic looking and clean it won't get any attention at all from the police. Thanks for the assist Jack. I am indeed your indentured servant.

quade 4 #3 October 7, 2003 Other than the obvious gas milage issues, it's not a bad choice for a skydiver that might want to sleep off the effects of being at a drop zone too late and has access to way too much gear. flyangel2 2 #4 October 7, 2003 Hey, you saw how I travel. Vans are the best. I can sleep in it during a down pour when every one else is running for cover. I too travel with one of my dogs, and it's great for taking all kinds of stuff.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. skymama 37 #15 October 8, 2003 Sheez, I don't even have a soccer ball sticker on my van, and I AM a soccer mom! I have a nice skydiving one though. Lisa, I think when you figure out the advantages of having that nice big bench seat in the back that you might change your mind about your van. DeNReN 0 #16 October 8, 2003 Congrats on finding a vehicle that ill suit your needs.....BUT....did you have the van checked over buy a mechanic????? "Looks to be in great shape..yada yada" Usually means that you havent. In my humble oppion(class A interprovincial,ASE Master Mechanic,ASE Advanced Engine Performance Specialist) buying a 13 year old dodge minvan without haveing it properly checked over will prob. lead to some rather expensive "suprises" and could also leave you on the side of the road stranded when on the way to pick the kids up from soccer A few dollars spent getting it checked out could save a lot of headachs in the future.....Btw...ure sisters friend ralph who works at the computor store and claims to "know about cars"...prob knows shit. I you have any questions, feel free to pm them to me or ask me in forum. Blue Skies and Never do a low hook turn with a minivan

RevJim 0 #18 October 8, 2003 More specifiaclly, Lisa, have the transmission checked with a fine toothed comb. This van could literally go forever, with proper care. The BIG stumbling block is the Chrysler Corp Tranny. I'm not kidding, I just had to replace the tranny in my 92. Did it myself, so it only cost parts, which happened to be to the tune of $1685.00 (plus tax). Why did the tranny fail? Simple, a typo in the owners manual. It says to use a very specific tranny fluid, but Dexron II (or III) is ok if the Chrysler fluid is not available. Well, it's wrong. One pint of Dexron fluid in a Chrysler tranny can destroy it in as little as 100 miles. Other than tranny issues, it's a rock solid van. I love mine, but seriously, get that tranny checked before you commit. (It's like $50 for a full check at a Chrysler dealership, which are the only ones who can properly check the tranny.) Good luck! (I was going to PM this, but figured the info might help more than just you. It's your life, live it! skybytch 273 #21 October 8, 2003 I spent a few years in the automotive industry (ten at an old fashioned full service gas station, 3 in GM parts). I'm not your average female when it comes to this - I know something about cars. Especially older cheap ones, which are all I've ever owned. A mechanic will check it out for me before the deal is final. Anybody know a good, honest mechanic in Sebastian? I appreciate the tip on the tranny Jim. I've had to rebuild the tranny in nearly every car I've owned - Chevys, Fords and Dodges so far. Hope I have better luck with a Plymouth... guess I should start saving for the rebuild now huh? RevJim 0 #23 October 8, 2003 Actually, you'll probably be safe if it's NOT a 3.3. Have it checked anyway. The tranny that backs the 3.3 is a very expensive option for the rest of the engines, but was standard on the 3.3 v6. Ever stand near a street and hear that "Buzzzzzzz, click!"? That's that tranny. Not normal band controls. Hydraulic soleniod valves instead. How many people have ever driver an early 90's Honda with an automatic? Grin, not many, since the ones that were actually made are pretty much in junkyards, while the 5 speed versions of the same cars are still on the road. Here's the strange tidbit of info.Quote "The Japanese influence of the A604 is something that was told to me by a visitor to my site some time ago. He said that while Honda itself didn't have a hand in its design, the same outside company that handles much of their trans designing did the 604 [Ultradrive], and we know that automatic transaxles are a weak link in Hondas as well. He also said that Chrysler badly screwed up when coming up with a maintenance schedule, and didn't properly inform buyers that a special trans fluid, Type 7176, was required. Many of these trannies have failed because people added Dexron III, which is akin to putting a time bomb in your trans." http://www.allpar.com/fix/trans-testimonials.htmlIt's your life, live it!
