I love it when moral crusaders are exposed for their true colors.

Oh lets see if we can explain this in terms you can actually fathom. I know this will be hard for you... BUT please.. follow along.

You may wish that was the case but that is untrue. Those number very clearly represent who is living in Cuba right now. I guess you think when they talk about the square miles in Cuba, in that link you provided, they are also counting Miami Dade county and Union City, NJ. It is also untrue to suggest that people came from Cuba with proportionate racial or economic statuses.

The numbers represent the country of Cuba.. as it is now but that is a direct correlation from what was there when your parents left.. swelling the numbers that are here now. It also represents the TOTAL number of Americans who identified themselves as Cuban American in this country with the LARGE populations of Dade County as well as New Jersey and the numbers that live in the other two large concentrations of Chicago and the Los Angeles area.
What is.... just is... this is the total numbers of Cubans.. period.. I was EVEN trying to give ALL Cuban Americans the benefit of the doubt for your Purity Identification... But I was stationed in South Florida in Southern Dade County at Homestead AFB in the mid seventies.. and I know that many of the Cuban farm hands and Cuban fishing communities there were not the white populations that northern Dade County held. I read your link and got nothing more from it that what I had already read. And I might add from reading... Castro’s Cuba is just more of the same racism that existed before the Great White Flight of the 60's. It’s the same form of racism that you seem to espouse over and over in your posts . Its just a different group of white men in power. But not all of the immigrants from the island have been the former white power elite that managed to get some of their financial holdings into banks in Miami before the fall of Batista. At least some of them managed to come here with something, which few other groups of immigrants managed to do when leaving their homelands.
http://www.cubacenter.org/media/archives/2001/winter/racial_equality.html

I do applaud the gains that many of the people who came here have made rather than assuming the mantle of oppressed minority but really becoming a productive part of a modern America. there is an underpinning of terrorists who came here and continue to operate

Quote

If all this is truly what you think then why have you not yet expressed support for propostion 54. I will tell you why because you are acting as a puppet for the left wing of the United States

http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~delacova/belligerence-2.htm

Ok so you believe I am some sort of puppet.. .. please... give me a break.. your strings being pulled by the Ultra Right Wing Anti Castro Terrorists is readily apparent. They are so in bed with the Bush Family that it reeks. You and your ilk label anyone who does not agree with you as commies or lefties, or now terrorists or Un-American. What Mr. Ashcroft and others in the far right forget is that many good people who are in the center politically actually have served this country. Your kind like to bash Mr. Clinton because he went to college in England rather than into military service(Clinton was graduated from Georgetown University and in 1968 won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. He received a law degree from Yale University in 1973, he had a brain and used it and more power to him coming from poverty)I would venture to say that many of the so called right... as Mr. Bush and Mr. PotatoHead(J. Danforth Quayle) are, if either of these privileged rich boys would have gone to classes rather than fraternity (DKE) parties maybe they could have learned to spell, or perhaps even speak, both joined the reserves or National Guard... the rich boys way of avoiding Vietnam.
Mr. Quayle http://www.geocities.com/greymalkinie/eggs.html

Mr. Bush.....http://www.realchange.org/bushjr.htm

And this is what the Republican party rolls out for candidates… HYPOCRITES.. ... Clinton might have shortcomings... but lordy…. these two moralists are buffoons. Republicans have busted Clinton’s chops for adultery. At least he was successful at it all the while providing a long period of prosperity http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents/bc42.html... Mr. Quayle seems to have tried adultery but got rejected...:P Herr Bush just lies about it. There are two credible reports from women who say they had affairs with George Bush, Jr. One alleged affair took place after Bush was married, on business trips to Los Angeles; in the other case, Bush was single but the woman was married at the time

Quote

I know that this may be difficult for you to understand because of your background. {KKK linked Democrats (Dixiecrats) or bleeded-heart, wacko left wing liberals}.

I know you don’t have a grasp on reality, but my background comes from that of an OLD Southern Family. One side got there about 12000 years ago.. the other side... in the 1820's after they came south from Carolina where they had originally settled in the late 1600's... but at least the close family has remained Democratic.. I know many in parts of our extended family, the bigoted portions who were Dixiecrats and good sheet wearin folk(KKK).. who left the Democratic Party and are all now good Republicans because their family values aligned more closely to current day GOP realities. Just more of the do as I say not as I do hypocrisy of the religeous wrong and the GOP.

>Every law has it's good and bad.

Right, but this law may not even accomplish what it claims to do. Take an environmental law - any power plant that generates more than X tons of nitrous oxides and dumps them in the air is fined. Good result - less pollution. Bad result - higher power prices. Perhaps this is worth the tradeoff, perhaps it is not. But there's not too much question that there will be less pollution afterwards.

Prop 54 will make it more difficult for the government or outside organizations to gather racial information. Direct results - less information available to plan with (a bad thing in general) and yet another law to add to the books (also a bad thing in general.) People hope the INDIRECT result will be less discrimination; the law says nothing about banning discrimination since that's already illegal. I think it's just as possible that the indirect result of 54 will be to increase discrimination.

So direct results=bad, indirect results=inconclusive, but some hope it will be good. Not a good law in my book.

>OMG... This is frightening!

My favorite quote:

"I think the only thing that does make sense (and its just a matter of time before the conservatives have the backbone to say it and the liberals just shut up), is to ban this religion completely. (Kill them all if you have to,they have no problem killing us). Its not a 20th century problem. They have been a problem since they were first around in the 6th century. It took my Spanish ancestors 700 years to get them out of Spain and we fought them from the day they came in. I hate them!!!"

From one of my favorite songs:

Must we take a life that hateful eyes
Might glisten once again?

Five hundred years like Gelignite
Have blown us all to hell
What savior rests while on his cross we die?
Has the sheperd led his lambs astray
to the bigot and the gun?

. . .

I sit and dwell on faces past
Memories seem to fade
No color left but black and white
And soon will all turn grey

But may these shadows rise and walk again
With lessons truly learned
When the blossom that flowers in each our hearts
Shall beat a new found flame

Must we take a life that hateful eyes
Might glisten once again?
Then we find ourselves in the same old mess
Singing drunken lullabies

All right, I'll make it easy for you then. Please tell me how that isuue could have been resolved without recognizing and noting racial/ethnic issues?

What issue are you talking about, specifically? The isolation of the Hawiian populace, coupled with their unique climate, history, large transient populace, and several other factors make the isles a horrible place for a social study whose results are to be extrapolated to mainland USA. The differences are monstrous - live there and you'll understand.
Quote

So by just not allowing people to note race, there will be no racial problems? Or since racism will be nect to impossible to prove in a court of law, the problem will go away. Never ficgured you for an ostrich.

Nope. Never said not noting race was the solution to ending racism. Nor noting the race of those applying for a loan, college admission or scholarship, or employment the solution. The solution is multi-faceted. Ending discrimination by the government is a key facet. So would ending the propaganda put out by certain groups which encourages people to identify themselves by their race.
Quote

Active invovment however is impossible if you cannot define the problem further than just discrimination. Tracking the date does not solve the problem by itself. Statistics do nothing by itself, but the knowledge that can be derived from statistics can help in designing a solution. Not having data is not the same as not having a problem.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say here.
Quote

So because you know one female who makes more than her male counterpart this somehow proves anything? I thought you knew something about statistics?

Far more than most people here with the possible exceptions of BillVon, Wendy(wmw999 I think; I forget her handle; she's pretty cool though), or Riddler, I assure you. If you'd read the rest of my quote you'd find that I indeed have read studies about the supposed gender gap and found none convincing to me.
Quote

Data Tracking in General of race and gender disturbs me because it's most likely use will be to justify some discriminatory program.

Can you back that up with any facts or is that just an assumption you are making?

What else might such data be used for? If you don't care what color anyone is, like me, you wouldn't see a need to collect it.

Quote

I feel that if not tracking such data helps to end racial/sexual discrimination on the part of the government, it's worth doing.

Even if it increases the risk of more people dying deaths that could have otherwise been prevented?

Deaths? What are you talking about dude? Who the hell has died because somebody didn't ask what race they are? How does tracking someone's race prevent a death?

Now if Prop 54 prevents doctors from sharing anonymous data with other doctors with regards to disease/results/observations, that would be wrong. If the proposition prevents this, I'm not aware of it.

I don't understand the reason for asking someone's race when they apply for a loan, college admission, college grants/scholarship, government employment or commission, or employment anywhere. It is an irrelevant factor for me. As far as it's concerned, I don't care and don't believe the government should either.

lol, you crack me up. But as we can see you still don't know the difference between a religion and a race. Every single one of those posts is about muslims. And other people can figure from you homophobia posts that I am not gay. But I have yet to hear a complaint from a gay person that something I said offended them. And the fact that I have been able to tell what kinds of cars women typically drive is certainly not something for women to hate me about. Ask my girlfreind she drives a saturn and I tell her she drives a chick car. That is what it is and its not in anyway meant as an offense. I remember at a contract I had about a year ago a salesgirl (money making girl) was talking about buying a car. I said what about a z-28 (thats my car) and she said no that is a boy car. I didn't take offense and neither did any of the other people smoking with us talking. If you have a problem with who you are or who society expects you to be its not my fault.

Prop 54 does not prevent outside organizations from gathering data in that manner. It does prevent the government from doing so, or inciting such data gathering.

One thing we're missing in this discussion is that the California Constitution already prevents the state from granting preferential treatment to any citizen based on race. This framework is already in place as it pertains to sexual preference, marital status and religion as well.

It's also worth pointing out that Dept of Fair Employment and Housing will have certain exemptions from this law. Research on medical subjects are also exempt. Nothing will prevent law enforcement, while carrying out their duties in lawful manners.

Discrimination begins with classification. Thus, perhaps discrimination will end with the end of classification.

Ok.. So I hear the Serbs are looking for a few good men who are really good at killing muslims... since you have all that repressed hate why not go... they have already killed thousands... whats a few more in mass graves. You are so proud of your your background of Ethnic Purity.. I guess the next step is to remove anyone not pure... oh wait.. Herr Hitler tried that already... they were Semites too.. oh wait.. that is not a race.. it was a similar religeon. So he managed to exterminate 6 million Jews... WWII killed how many millions of other people... Not only Jews.. the Germans did a fairly good job of exterminating all those Gypsies you also find so appalling in current day Spain... they did a good job on homosexuals..oh..then again they were far more successfull at killing off Slavic people.. in areas they "liberated" in thier newly captured lands they needed for "liebensraum, or "living room". I guess in your mind a Middle East without any of those pesky Muslims would solve all the problems... So During WW III that we are entering.. how many dead are acceptable to satisfy your Purity Standards this time.. in this Millenium... 60 Million... 600 Million...

NO SHIT.... you are not gay... just a homophobe... and most of the gay people on this forum would not answer you or any of the other haters out there who enjoy thier vitreolic hatred of others. There are a few guys on here who are out that do answer some of that crud from the guys like you who continually shove it down all of the other readers throats.

Nah... wrong assumption I am very happy with my life as it is... fairly successful, well traveled, with diverse interests. I work hard and have learned how to play harder.

But see mysogeny comes in many forms... usually from men like you who are threatened (and confused by a woman in a pickup truck as in your post) by a woman who does not need a man to support her or one who avoids guys like you who hate just about anyone who is not like him.. as evidenced so often in your posts.

>Discrimination begins with classification.

Unfortunately, this law will do nothing to prevent people from making that classification - unless the law provides for "bleaching" all people to the same color. People will still be able to discriminate against whoever they choose to. It will not prevent a lender from lending only to whites; it will, however, make sure that that lender is never prosecuted for doing so, since such information is now illegal for government prosecutors to gather.
