ChasingBlueSky 0 #1 October 15, 2003 Found this in the Chicago Sun-Times today Diann Burns' banner day A snafu of staggering proportions marred WBBM-Channel 2's otherwise successful promotion of Diann Burns' debut Monday as star news anchor at the CBS-owned station. As thousands of spectators at Chicago's Columbus Day parade looked up, a plane flew over the crowd pulling a banner that read: "Watch DIANN BUMS Tonight at 5, 6, and 10 on CBS 2." How the company hired to design the banner turned B-U-R-N-S into B-U-M-S was the subject of considerable embarrassment for the station -- and unending ridicule among several talk radio stations Monday. "I was horrified," said Joe Ahern, president and general manager of Channel 2, who was riding on the station's float alongside Burns. "If I'd had a gun, I would have shot the plane down myself." When other means of contact proved unsuccessful, the station sent up "Chopper 2" helicopter reporter Kris Habermehl, who flew close enough to plane to hold up a hand-written sign to the pilot. "When the guy finally realized what had happened, he just grimaced," Ahern said. As for the expense of the banner and the plane, that's one bill Ahern is certain he won't be paying._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
