They DID? Uhmmm... you running some kinda proxy to get on the web?

Yep we have to run thru a controlled proxy to get onto the internet. no more telnetting to check my mail or update my website...

anyone know of a way to reroute a port off my computer at home to reconnect to unix?

I'd use VNC to connect to the computer at home, then go where I want on the remote connection.

I'm just guessing but I think you'd need to redirect both outgoing and incoming. The only thing I can think of would be some kind of NAT redirection, but I'm not sure how that'd work

AT&T has a vnc program that would work, but the problem being, i can't download anything onto the computer or install from a floppy. we don't have admin rights on the computers to do that stuff...

they know we're computer dorks and would install linux is we could ;)

Are you trying to connect to a unix box at home or somewhere else?

Is there are reason you don't just use pop to get your mail?

If your mail on the unix box supports pop access but your company has the pop ports blocked I do have a solution for you, based on your ability to browse the web.

Yeah, but have they blocked all real-time stock and news tickers? Those bastards are what REALLY chew up the bandwidth. I worked at a law firm where every atty wanted to have those tickers loaded, but then would complain that they couldn't do their online research due to lack of bandwidth. Oh, I also busted a $350/hr atty browsing porn for 7 hours in an 8 hour day, and he was billing it to a client. I watched my Internet gateway and saw his IP address visiting some places even Ivan wouldn't venture (and I'm not talking about midget porn either). When they confronted him, he tried to deny it. Since he was a partner in the firm, he got a firm reprimand...meaning that he was asked to try not to do that anymore. The very next day, he was at it again. One of the techs working for me refused to work on his computer because she said she didn't want to find out what "new additions" he had on his keyboard. B|

I get no respect. [:/]

Sure you do. I respect your vastly superior knowledge of porn and associated web sites. B|

Actually, there's that whole professional respect thing I just keep to myself when it comes to other IT folks.
