kansasskydiver 0 #4 October 15, 2003 their reasoning is that we're using too much broadwidth playing java games and going to site we're not suposed to be going to. so they're going to reinstall the windows game packages with the new images on our computers.<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! Yep we have to run thru a controlled proxy to get onto the internet. no more telnetting to check my mail or update my website... anyone know of a way to reroute a port off my computer at home to reconnect to unix?<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! lummy 4 #10 October 15, 2003 I'd use VNC to connect to the computer at home, then go where I want on the remote connection. I'm just guessing but I think you'd need to redirect both outgoing and incoming. The only thing I can think of would be some kind of NAT redirection, but I'm not sure how that'd workI promise not to TP Davis under canopy.. Fast 0 #12 October 15, 2003 Are you trying to connect to a unix box at home or somewhere else? Is there are reason you don't just use pop to get your mail? If your mail on the unix box supports pop access but your company has the pop ports blocked I do have a solution for you, based on your ability to browse the web.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. McDuck 0 #13 October 15, 2003 Yeah, but have they blocked all real-time stock and news tickers? Those bastards are what REALLY chew up the bandwidth. I worked at a law firm where every atty wanted to have those tickers loaded, but then would complain that they couldn't do their online research due to lack of bandwidth. Oh, I also busted a $350/hr atty browsing porn for 7 hours in an 8 hour day, and he was billing it to a client. I watched my Internet gateway and saw his IP address visiting some places even Ivan wouldn't venture (and I'm not talking about midget porn either). When they confronted him, he tried to deny it. Since he was a partner in the firm, he got a firm reprimand...meaning that he was asked to try not to do that anymore. The very next day, he was at it again. One of the techs working for me refused to work on his computer because she said she didn't want to find out what "new additions" he had on his keyboard.
