where to stay for Eloy over Xmas and other qu's on the boogie...

Recommended Posts

anyone got any recommends on places to stay that will a) be available and b) not break the bank? I take it the bunkhouse will be full by the time i get there (24th). Will it be too cold to camp in a tent? (bear in mind im from the UK, so camping out, even in AZ winter time might still be nice and warm for me). Better yet, does anyone live nearby and have a spare piece of floor i could rent for 2 weeks?

How far is the drive from LA to Eloy? (i'm figuring maybe 400 miles or so?)

How far is the nearest store or whatever off the dz? I'll have a hire car, but it seems like there's nothing for miles apart from more desert.

How much do they normally charge for high alti/balloon jumps?

Will the parties be any good:P

Thanks!

fly into pheonix it's closer.

high alt last year was $25 and i think the balloon jumps were 45-60 i can't remember

parties are good at the dz

there is a city close to eloy, casa grande i think, there are stores etc there. the dz has the bent prop to eat at etc. there are some hotels, but camping out isn't too bad, just make sure you don' set up your tent over a rock in the middle of the night and then wonder why your back hurts in the morning

Camping isn't too bad, but bring layers for the night... alternate motels in casa grande worth looking at (20 minute drive)

balloon is 65 bucks, but it's not the dz who charges you, it's a local named burner...

Eloy is a party...

There are stores within 10 minutes from the dz...

LA is around 6 hours?

Super 8 Motel-Eloy (520) 466-7804 is about 4 miles from the dz (nothing fancy but rooms are clean). Regular rooms are $54.53/night. They also offer several Family Rooms which have 2 Full/Queen beds and 2 bunk beds for $68.16/night if you want to share a room with other people. Super 8 Motel-Eloy offers shuttle service from the motel to the dz in the morning and pickup from the dz in the evening free of charge.

um, there's lots of eloy threads... but basically to answer your question, it is VERY VERY cold at night. Most people who start out in tents, if they survive a couple nights end up getting a hotel room or something. That and as it gets more crowded, the showers run out of hot water, and it's unbearable in the morning to shower. And the shower rooms aren't heated either. It's SOO cold. The bunkhouse is probably the worst bunkhouse of anything i've ever stayed in, at least it was last time i was there last year. The heaters aren't very strong, it's still cold in there, and gets very gross during the boogie, lots of drunk smelly people... your best bet is to find people to split a hotel room with.
You can survive camping, but it's painful.

There's a WalMart in Casa Grande, about a 10-15 minute drive. THere are always people goin, so you can hitch rides no problem.

parties are ok, but secluded, you kinda have to know people and know where they are. The new years party is good.

Take heed, don't think about staying at the Toltec Inn. It's filled with cockroaches and is pretty dirty. The other hotels listed on this thread are tollerable and better.
IMO
