Anyone know anything about car repair?

Got in a damaging accident this evening on 95. My car is at the shop now and I'll have an estimate tomororw, or the bad news that it's totalled.

I know for sure that the hood and side panels up to the front doors probably need replaced. needs new headlighs and a new radiator as that got scrunched back. steering wheel airbag needs replaced.

any ideas how much that runs? i'm trying to sleep easier tonight knowing that "totalled" won't be in the mechanic's vocabulary. I can handle the deductable, not a new car!

I don't know anything about car repair, but I'm really glad to see that you're ok enough to post about it! Do you have any injuries?

1) Are you okay?
2) What happened?
3) Cars can be replaced
4) What kind of car (year/make)?
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life

Yeah, what the mama said. Glad to see you're at least able to post. Are you okay, other than being shaken up?

I smashed up a Le Sabre, the damage was on the hood, front bumper, side panels and headlights. A buddy of mine got me a cheap deal, $1500 Canadian. An autobody shop was asking $3200 Canadian. Sorry to tell ya, but I'm guessing you're looking at something like $4500 USD at leastB|

Are you okay? Glad you're well enough to post! (Your health is the most important thing!!)

I dunno what repairs cost, but I'd rather have a car totalled than take the decreased value because it'd been in an accident. Also, make sure you can actually get another car for what they pay you for it. Sometimes insurance companies have a way of coming up with lower values than reality.

Glad your ok.....I'm not a body man..but the
damage you described....yikes $$$$$$$$$.

Modern cars are designed to absorb impact by "crumpling"...and that they do.....replacement parts vary greatly from car to car and the labour involved is usually quite high........it dosent take much to write off a car these days:S

If your car is "written off" your insurance company should cut you a check for the blackbook value of the car and hopefully that will be enought to replace it with a similar used one. they should also cover a rental car for a few days..but that depends on your insurer.

Best of luck and Blue skiesB|

I can't believe you hit another car, Stacy. What in the hell is matter with you? They should have never given you a license to drive. When I move to Florida, I'm going to petition to have your license revoked, you are a threat to the innocent people who share the road with you.

I'm OK. I have a minor burn/welt on my stomanh, right wrist/forearm and right knee from the hit and airbags. I'm a little sore now and imagine tomorrow will be interesting.

Merging onto 95 on my way to do a patients funeral this evening a car slammed on brakes. A second car braked but rear ended them. I was the third car, also rear ended the middle car. the car in front of me had minimal damage on teh back, the bumper was scratched at worst. My car's damadge is as above.

cars can be replaced, but i have no money for one right now. ugh.

it's a 2001 Elantra GLS

WOAH, Glad you are OK Stacy
Here in OZ you's also be up for damages to the other cars. We have a ruling here that requires minimum stopping distances between cars (no one doe it) so if you are the last car in a noce to tail catapillar you are the one all the insurance claims rest on.
OUCH
Hope it's different there.B|

Don't worry. I had a similar situation 18 months ago. I was hit by a driver with no DL and no insurance. My car was totaled and my insurance left me owing $1000+ towing+storage. That would not have been so bad but I lost my job earlier that week. I was left with no money, no job, and no car. It was tough but I worked through it.

It seems like bottomless pit but you make make it out. You jump out of perfectly good airplanes for fun, this is nothing...

Depends on the insurance company. Most try their best not to total the car. They will ask you to take it to one of their preferred shops. [:/]

Most likely they will try not to replace panels that could possibly be straightened. I know the air bags are expensive.

Take Pics silly. Then I would be able to tell you more.

IF the insurance company will guarantee the repairs done there, a preferred shop actually repairing the car may not be a bad idea.

GOD BLESS PROGRESSIVE!!!!

My car damages clocked in at about $7000. They're fixing it up and i'll pretty much have a brand new front half of my car in 2-3 weeks. My new baby should be back right before the Bytch Boogie. We shall have to christen it with beer and champagne!

Pics to follow, a coworker took some while i was signing papers today.

my insurance left me owing $1000+ towing+storage

that's the exact reason i paid the extra 100 buks on my auto loan so that if the car was in a wreck and was totaled the loan would be paid off in full even if the insurance company didn't pay the full owed amount.....

glad to hear you are okay stacy.. i understand the im i got the other day with "do you know anything about cars" in it....lol...... i don't other than the fact that i too own an elantra..... and i know how the windshild gets replaced... justhad that done today.....lol...
