AndyMan 7 #5 October 15, 2003 I've seen a few of these going around. All I gotta say is that it's typical for Cubs fans to find scapegoats for their team screwing up. The Cubs lost because they got cockey and gave away 8 runs, not cuz of a foul-ball or a long dead goat. The Cubs will never win until fans hold them responsible for screwing up. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Don't hear anyone asking for Alex's head after that error. I didn't see a goat get in his way, so what's the excuse?_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... bmcd308 0 #8 October 15, 2003 >>The Cubs lost because they got cockey and gave away 8 runs, not cuz of a foul-ball or a long dead goat. << Everybody knows that what AndyMan said here is BULLCRAP! I have been listening to the Cubs fans in my office all day, and now I'm convinced that it is actually this guy's fault. If he had not given the Marlins 8 points, what would the score have been? That shuts you up pretty quick, doesn't it? Well, in case you're bad at math, without the 8 points, the Marlins would have zero points. Yup, and zero is less than three, so the Cubs would have won. There are people who say that this was a foul ball that made it into the stands, but those are just whining Florida idiots. Chicago people know that when a ball goes into the stands but maybe could have been caught, the other team gets 8 points. It's like getting tackled in your own endzone (only that is only 2 points - the rule ought to be changed, in my opinion). If this guy was such a fan, he would have known the rules, and he never would have caught that ball to give the Marlins the 8 points. Anyway, that is how their argument seems to go when they tell it to me. Hell, I never watch baseball anyway. BTW, nothing personal. I was just waiting for a logical post so I could jump in to repeat the insane crap I have been hearing all day. skygazer 0 #9 October 15, 2003 I still think the goat is funny... And I still cheer for the Cubbies...even though THEY lost the game, not the dude in the stands._______________________________________
AndyMan 7 #10 October 16, 2003 QuoteAgreed. Don't hear anyone asking for Alex's head after that error. Did you see the front page of the Sun Times? The largest headline since D-Day says "Curses", and a picture of That Guy(tm). Oh well. There's a loud sucking sound coming from wrigleyville tonight anyways. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Were eight runs scored on that play? No. Were eight runs scored on the next play? No. It doesn't come down to just one bonehead fan maneuver, because the Cubs had a chance to bounce back from that situation and deal with it. Anything that followed is NOT the fan's fault.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
bmcd308 0 #12 October 16, 2003 I agree with you. I am just tired of hearing the Cubs fans in my office blame this guy for stuff that happened way after the play in question. When I first heard about it in the morning, I thought that he had caught a grand slam that an outfielder was going to be able to catch and that the Marlins scored 4 runs on that same swing of the bat. That is how far they are taking it - that a person overhearing their conversation would think that it was a grand slam play not a foul ball. Geez. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
AggieDave 6 #13 October 16, 2003 Jeb Bush offered 'the fan' assilum in FL for 3 months. A beach front hotel has offered to put him up during that time. A lot of businesses are offering him free meals and all sorts of stuff. I think its all very funny! Especially since this guy did what ANY fan would due.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

I figured it was pretty serious when it made what's widely considered to be the heaviest current affairs program going. ( PM on the ABC in Melbourne.Windows media player or a transcript ) The "Goat Curse" thing is bloody brilliant...While Jebs offer is a nice gesture I reckon that the "fan" would still have problems. Leaving continental USA is about his best bet - perhaps a bit of a yap to Helen Clarke in NZ or well,,,erm,,,um,,, nowhere really...Ooroo Mark F... sinker 0 #16 October 16, 2003 I just find it so incredibly stupid that there are really assholes in this world who would cause this man physical and psychological harm for his attempt to catch a foul ball. Was it interference? Yes. Did it cause them the loose the game? Not really. Some people take sports WAY too seriously... people who identify themselves w/ a sports team so indelibly need serious help. -the artist formerly known as sinker
FliegendeWolf 0 #17 October 16, 2003 I agree. I was at Indiana University when Bobby Knight got fired. The campus exploded with riots and effigy burnings (of the university president). Several months later at the graduation ceremony, the graduates, still hot, booed the president when he began speaking. For Christ's sake: an asshole got his comeuppance and this is what sets the students off. Not corporate or political scandals or anything of real significance.A One that Isn't Cold is Scarcely a One at All
