kevin922 0 #1 October 30, 2003 Ah well I'm taking my dog, tank, to a pet behaviorist saturday. He has some severe seperation anxiety issues where he goes to the bathroom on the carpet in the apt, and has just recently broken through the laundry room door (literally). I'm the 3rd owner (he went through the police academy but was scared of guns) and this problem has gotton progressively worse.. now that i've bought a house, i don't want it carrying over there. We'll see what this behaviorist says on saturday, they can prescribe drugs (doggy valium).. anyone had similar problems? Tank is a german shepherd, seen here and here
jfields 0 #2 October 30, 2003 I do not have that level of patience or dedication with pets. I suppose it is a good thing I have fish. I feed them regularly, change the water and make sure the tank is at the right temperature. Beyond that, if they die, they get flushed. "No mammals" is one of my rules for pets. Honestly, I don't see how dog and cat owners do it.
TEB6363 0 #3 October 30, 2003 We tend to adopt/rescue our pets. We currently have a rescue dog (O'Neil) who is a 108-pound German Shepard/Great Dane mix... He got too big for his first home. He is a big'Ol happy dog who may be a little short on brains . We also have a 'special needs' kitty (Iris) who is partially brain damaged and cannot focus her eyes or see in the bright light very well.. We got her at 3 months old and she is such a sweetie. Now, we did have a second dog (Hedi) who was a smaller shepard mixed with something [hiper].. She would dig and chew everything. I still remember the power going out in the garage when she chewed an extension cord out back one day.. After a little over a year, we could do nothing with her to stop the behavior. Positive reinforcement, discipline, treats, kennel time, you name it. We had to put her back up for adoption... It was actually very hard to do, but we could not keep up with her and it was not a good "fit." Well, she was adopted by a family who has a nice chunk of farm land and she can run more than she ever wanted (or could do at our house) and has many other things to keep her occupied. So, the adoption thing just worked out great for us and Hedi. You need to work out the living situation that is best for both you and the dog... Good Luck Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
