freeflir29 0 #1 October 31, 2003 OK...some computer guru tell me what's wrong. My new Dell refuses to play DVD's. The drive won't recognize the disk. I have run all the tutorials in XP and R&R'd the drive itself. The only progress I have made is getting the menu in Win Media Player to go from showing only an audio option to DVD, VCD, CD Audio option. The drive plays Music and game CD's with no problem. Just no DVD. I also tried downloading a differen't decoder....Intervideo WinDVD5. No help..... It sounds like this is a common problem.....I just can't seem to find the answer. CrazyIvan 0 #3 October 31, 2003 Just one question, when you say DON'T PLAY DVD's you mean the DVD you have or ALL DVD's?__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.
freeflir29 0 #4 October 31, 2003 Quoteyou mean the DVD you have or ALL DVD's? Yeah...that's been a thought. I only have the two DVD set of Matrix Reloaded here now. I would think something mass produced like that should work though.

One thing I forgot to ask, Can you see the contents of the DVD?, what I mean is, if you put the DVD in the drive and use Explorer, can you see the files?__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Maybe Windows is 'confused' , but that drive is just a CDROM (check under DEVICE MANAGER).__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. freeflir29 0 #12 October 31, 2003 Quotecheck under DEVICE MANAGER Ahhh.....Yep....Device manager lists it as CD-ROM. I guess that'll teach me to try to do new things on my computer at 2 AM after 3 Bacardi and Cokes.

Sebazz1 2 #16 October 31, 2003 Ya know if any sheep fur gets into your DVD / CD-rom drive it may cause it to malfunction as well. So keep those sheep away from the computer...
