Relocation: Where would YOU go?

Oh yeah, people don't ever get to jump more than once a day in Florida....

I've seen a lot of used main canopies. Take two identical mains with the same number of jumps on them, one jumped primarily in Florida and one jumped primarily in Eloy and I'll guarantee you that the fabric and lines on the one jumped in Eloy will be in worse condition than the fabric and lines on the one jumped in Florida.

No kidding there!! One of my freinds got a canopy that had 100 jumps on it. It came from someone that jumps in AZ. It didn't look anything like a canopy with 100 jumps from the midwest.

Perris (CA) is pretty cool if you don't mind living in a desert. The dropzone is awesome (actually two good 7-day-a-week dropzones with big planes) and the wind tunnel is almost complete. Even though the landscape here kinda sucks, it's only about an hour drive to get to either mountains or the beach. Lots of fun people too, and San Diego and LA are pretty close by for some city fun. Oh, and Las Vegas is only a 4-hour drive from here as well.

But if you're thinking of moving to Texas, then AUSTIN is THE place to be. Beautiful landscape, decent weather, great people, reasonable cost of living, though I think the job market's kinda down right now. Tons of cool places to hang out, lots of really good live music and funky culture. Skydive San Marcos is about 45 minutes away - great people and great vibes, very pretty and green. There are also two smaller dz's less than an hour away, as well as larger dz's in Houston and Dallas (each about a 3-hour drive).

Oh no, there I go making myself miss Austin again!

Ah, and after looking at your profile I should mention that there is an unusually large number of BASE jumpers at Perris (if you're looking to get into that). ;)

Not much web design work out here though - you'd probably have to live closer to San Diego or LA for that, but then the cost of living goes way up...

Florida - hot, humid, hard to find a decent paying job, FLYING COCKROACHES. lots of silly rednecks (I'm from Bradenton & fam is currently in Lakeland). It's a great place to Visit!!

Austin - very nice, high cost of living, job market is on the downward slope, still on the hotter side

Arizona - nice if you enjoy the color of sand & brick. the dry weather is hell on your skin, so you'll age faster too.

S. Cal - over priced, stuck up. (execpt the skydivers I met there - just the rest of the population)

Chicagoarea - 10 dzs w/in a 5 hr drive. however, HORRID winters & a higher cost of living (if your w/in 30 miles of Chicago, in a decent neighborhood).

DC - what Justin said. however, you chould check out Charlottesville, further west & a bit south. On the eastern side of the blue ridge mtns, very nice!! But then, I'd pick...

Raleigh over Charlottesville; although you are getting further south & more bugs flying around.

Don't know, I'd pick Charlottesville (VA), Raleigh, or if there's a dz in TN, somewhere there. All have nice temperate weather. Good change of seasons. Mountains, lakes or ocean, laid back attitude w/ a decent size city nearby. Ok job market & average cost of living.

There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear.

PMS #227 (just like the TV show)

I'm looking to relocate too. Whatever you do know this. Drew Carey is a FUCKING LIAR!!!!!! Cleveland sucks hairy goat balls. I've got leads in SoCal (San Diego) and Florida (Orlando area) so we'll see what happens. I just visited San Diego last Sunday and it was REALLY nice. Hellified expensive but nice.(Draft Bud Light was $3.25 and they looked at me crazy when I asked if they had Rolling Rock) I would like to keep the job I have now but the chances of them actually transferring me back to Atlanta are slim and none and slim moved to a small island in the South Pacific with no phones or mail service. Here's the deal: I love my dropzone, I love my friends in Michigan, but I'm flat out sick of Michigan. I've been here for two years now and I can't seam to get used to it. I'm trying to figure out where I would go if I decided to relocate. Can you guys give me some suggestions???

Considering the following, where would you go?

1) Must have a good dropzone within 50 miles.
2) Must have decent weather conditions.
3) Must have an acceptable job market.
4) Must have an inspiring landscape.
5) Must have a reasonable cost of living.

You have just described PErth Western Australia:)

Another positive about Florida is that it isn't England!

Summers just finished here, and we now have 6 months of crap thermal wearing weather.

Looking forward to going back to Sebastian Florida in Feb, Fantastic DZ, Fantastic views and Fantastic people (especially in manifest)

Seattle has

1) 3 dropzone within 50 miles 2 of them with turbines in summer. 2 more DZ within 100 miles. And Several DZ just across the border in Canada 2hours to the north.Winter time LOTS of chances to work on canopy skills under the overcast skies. But when it does clear out in winter its SPECTACULAR.

2) Mild year round with lows in winter very rarely below 25 degrees at night and mid 30's in the days when even the coldest conditions ( Canadian Airmass from Gulf of Alaska) Rarely snows so no shoveling or snowblowers needed. But if you like snow.. for skiing.. the mountain ski areas are about an hour drive in the passes .
Mild in summer usually in 70's to 80's Most of the year you have to take it on faith that the air really does exist.. since you can't see it...;)

3) Has a GREAT job market... Software;) Bio-tech, Tourism, Military bases to N,S,W very diverse economy... even Boeing... they are down but not out.

4) SCENERY SCENERY SCENERY N. Cascade Mountins( aka the American Alps) to the E.. Mt Rainier (14410')to the south Mt Baker to the north.. allways snow covered year round The Puget sound with HUNDREDS of islands to the west with the Olympic Mountains just on the other side... also snow covered.. year round
5) Cost of living is median with many places in the country.. far less than many places in the NE... and less than most of CA.

Oh.. add BASE... seems there are LOTS of places if you dont mind a bit of a hike of some.. and some cool BASE jumpers. And no I will not burn a site:)

Just my $.02

Come on down to Georgia. Don't know if the job market is any good anywhere but there are some beautiful areas here up North of Atlanta, you DON'T want to live in that city though. My drop zone ASC is great!
