bendywendy 0 #27 October 30, 2003 I would agree with Florida but have you lived near Lake Wales? I lived at the dz years ago - Lake Wales the dz is great - Lake Wales as a place to live is not. Go to one coast or the other. Tampa area - you've got Z-hills. Daytona area - you have a quick ride to Deland. Sebastian - you have Sebastian or Miami you've got homestead. Or if you like the city move to Orlando and you can drive to any of them including Lake Wales in a relatively short time.
jfields 0 #28 October 30, 2003 QuoteHey, what about the DC area? Anyone live there? Where would you skydive if you were from DC? I live just outside DC. Want the run-down: High cost of living. Astronomical housing prices. Heavy traffic. Nearest DZ is about 2 hours away. The 5 nearest DZs are all fairly small 1-plane operations.

freeflygoddess 0 #31 October 30, 2003 Move to Phoenix, there are 3 really good DZs within 50 miles, plus there are lots of jobs, and 350 jumping days a year! Plus I am here! There is a 4th DZ close by, but I have never been there and heard some bad stories about it. Plus you are still only 6 hours from Elsinore and Perris and the beach! Or a 30 min plane ride, but they wont let you jump out, I tried....yeah not a good idea if you actually want to enjoy your time in Cali, but if you want a really cool white jacket and really puffy white room, then go for it! PhreeZone 20 #32 October 30, 2003 Lots of green in TX? Not that I've seen in Dallas, SA, Houston or Austin compared to the midwest. I've never had a harder place to slide out a landing then I did in Dallas. The Midwest/FL beats TX for being green any day of the week, except in winter in the midwest I've jumped in 8 states on both coasts, jump as north as MI and as south as FL. Work has me all over the US and if I was to move somewhere I'd look at Dallas (granted it does snow and have ice storms for about a month- month and a half every Jan), Atlanta or San Antinio. SA and Atlanta are very nice cities and have good DZ's with in an hour and a half drive.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
mujie96 0 #33 October 30, 2003 AZ. I'm thinking of going back there myself, I spent last weekend at Skydive AZ and was reminded that there was actually a reason I packed up all my worldly possessions and left Hawaii for it. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming....

jfields 0 #35 October 30, 2003 QuoteSounds like you love it there! It is where I grew up. << shrug >> As a native, you learn to deal. If you get a good job, the salaray can partially offset the cost of living. I also found a job with an easy commute. There are a lot of plusses too. Among the best museums in the entire world. Very multi-cultural. Great ethnic food. Nice change of seasons. Stellar school system where I live. I'm still bitter about the distance to the DZs though. samanthashows 0 #36 October 30, 2003 You are so right. I live in Cedar Park (right outside of Austin)... The job market sucks and cost of living is expensive. Other than those 2 things I'd say move to Austin. It really depends on what job market you are looking for here though... AND if you live outside of Austin, you can get some cheaper and nice places to live....Samantha Weaver

You left Hawaii for Arizona? Hmmm. The only reason I haven't considered Hawaii is cost of living. I heard that's a great place to live! Well, that must say a lot for Arizona. jfields 0 #38 October 30, 2003 Quotemy sister lives outside of DC and so do some of my friends. If you have a support network here, it would be easier, but much of what I said still stands. There is a lot to like, but it isn't conducive to a skydiving-oriented lifestyle. No stopping off at the DZ for a quick jump after work.

jmpnkramer 0 #45 October 30, 2003 Florida is really nice. As far as the summers go yeah it is hot but hey that is when you can travel to the North. There is always air conditioning as well. Not too mention pools and the ocean. Although both are like bath water. The "BLUE HAIRS" are really not that bad. You get used to them. There are many attractions & nitelife. Many different travelling options. Scuba, parks (although nothing w/ mountains), Springs. Last but not least there are at least 5 TURBINE DZ's within 1.5hrs of one another. Many foreigners come here to train. You will meet many different nationalities. Friendly DZ's. SDuper Parties. WARM WEATHER in DECEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! C'mon Floridians help me out here. The job market is average. The cost of living is pretty low compared to other places. A Nice relaxing atmosphere. CanuckInUSA 0 #47 October 30, 2003 From a jumping point of view, the logical relocation choice would be Phoenix Arizona as not only is there world class skydiving to be had (in what 8-9 months of the year) but Phoenix also has enough computer IT work to keep me busy (Southern CA and FL don't seem to have the computer work that Northern CA, CO or AZ have). But as long as I'm contempt jumping here in CO, why would I want to leave. CO is a fantastic place to be. Just don't talk to me about moving back to Canada because the skydiving there isn't nearly as good as it is south of the border. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

jmpnkramer 0 #49 October 30, 2003 Arizona is good as long as you like buying canopies. All the dust ruins the canopy in a relatively short period of time. Work is over rated anyway.
